Job description

This is a temporary, full-time position expected to last approximately 3 months.
The Industrial Engineering Intern supports continuous improvement initiatives within USBP’s manufacturing operations while gaining hands-on experience in Lean manufacturing principles, visual management, work instruction development, time studies, and process improvement. This role provides the opportunity to apply engineering and problem-solving skills in a production environment while contributing to projects that improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and maintain visual management work instructions for assembly lines.
  • Conduct time studies to support the development of assembly production standards and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Work with Industrial Engineering staff to support assembly line balancing activities.
  • Evaluate and assist in implementing efficiency improvements for manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Participate in projects that may include facility layout improvements and workflow optimization initiatives.
  • Work safely by utilizing required PPE and following all company safety procedures.
  • Support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives while gaining exposure to Lean tools and methodologies.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field; equivalent manufacturing or process improvement experience will also be considered.
  • Basic understanding of Lean manufacturing principles through coursework, projects, or practical experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals written in English.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with team members and management.
  • Interest in continuous improvement, process optimization, and manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools as needed.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, bending, and walking.
