Role Description The Deputy Town Clerk and Assessment Clerk is a part-time, on-site role based in Churchville, NY. This position supports the Town Clerk’s office and the Assessment office by assisting with the preparation, filing, and maintenance of official town records, permits, licenses, and correspondence. Daily tasks may include processing payments, answering phone calls and in-person inquiries, scheduling appointments, and providing information to residents regarding town services and procedures. The role also includes helping with property assessment data entry, updating assessment records, preparing reports, and coordinating with other municipal departments and external agencies as needed. The Deputy Town Clerk and Assessment Clerk is expected to maintain confidentiality, follow established policies and regulations, and provide courteous and efficient service to the public.

Qualifications

  • Strong administrative and clerical skills, including accurate data entry, records management, and organizing paper and electronic files.
  • Proficiency with office software and technology, such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, and municipal or accounting systems.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills for interacting with residents, colleagues, and public officials in person, by phone, and in writing.
  • Solid basic math and analytical skills for handling payments, reconciling transactions, and reviewing assessment information.
  • Ability to understand and follow municipal procedures, regulations, and timelines, with careful attention to accuracy and compliance.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High level of integrity, professional conduct, and respect for confidentiality when handling sensitive or personal information.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in public administration, office management, or a related discipline is an advantage.
  • The starting salary is $20/hr for up to 16 hours/week
