Position Summary

The Component Design Manager is responsible for leading the design team in the development of roof truss, floor truss, and engineered wood product (EWP) layouts. This role ensures all designs meet engineering standards, customer specifications, and production requirements while maintaining efficiency, accuracy, and profitability over a muti-location business.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee daily operations of the design department
  • Lead, train, and develop a team of truss and EWP designers
  • Review and approve all truss designs and EWP layouts prior to production
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes and engineering standards
  • Coordinate closely with sales, production, and field teams to ensure project success
  • Optimize design processes for efficiency, cost control, and accuracy
  • Troubleshoot design and layout issues to support production and field operations
  • Maintain design schedules to meet customer deadlines
  • Work directly with customers, builders, and engineers to clarify plans and resolve issues
  • Implement and enforce best practices in design software and workflows


Requirements:

Required experience in both Truss Design and Engineered Wood Products (EWP)

  • Strong knowledge of residential and light commercial construction practices
  • Proficiency in industry design software (e.g., MiTek, Alpine, or similar)
  • Proven leadership experience managing a design team
  • Solid understanding of structural loads, spans, and building codes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural, and structural plans
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Travel to other locations as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in truss and EWP design
  • Previous management or supervisory experience in a component manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with production processes and shop operations
