Job description

RESOURCE PARENTFull-Time | Live-In Position

?? Together California

Together California is seeking compassionate, dependable, and nurturing individuals or couples to serve as Resource Parents within our foster care village community. Resource Parents play a vital role in providing a safe, stable, and supportive home environment for children and youth in foster care while helping them heal, grow, and thrive.

This is a unique live-in opportunity in which Resource Parents reside in agency-provided village homes while caring for foster youth in a family-style setting.

Position Summary

The Resource Parent is responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy, structured, and supportive home environment for children placed in their care. Resource Parents work closely with case workers, therapists, schools, and the Together California team to support each child’s emotional, educational, behavioral, and developmental needs.

Resource Parents serve as positive role models while helping youth achieve stability, permanency, and personal growth.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe, clean, stable, and nurturing home environment
  • Support children’s emotional, educational, medical, and behavioral needs
  • Assist with homework, school involvement, and enrichment activities
  • Transport youth to appointments, school activities, therapy, and related services
  • Administer medications as prescribed when necessary
  • Participate in Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings, court appearances, and trainings
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to children in care
  • Support family reunification and permanency planning efforts
  • Participate in ongoing supervision and required trainings
  • Represent Together California professionally and positively at all times
  • Comply with all agency policies and state and county regulations

Housing Requirement

This position requires Resource Parents to reside in agency-provided homes located within the Together California village community.

Because the housing provided is directly connected to placement needs, applicants must also maintain access to alternative housing arrangements in the event employment or placement circumstances change.

Qualifications
  • Must complete the Resource Family Approval (RFA) process, including background clearances, fingerprinting, home inspection, CPR/First Aid certification, and required pre-service training
  • Previous childcare, foster care, or parenting experience preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care, family reunification, and permanency planning
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with agency staff and community partners
  • Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to work in an alcohol-, tobacco-, and drug-free environment
  • Commitment to Together California’s mission, values, and philosophy

Why Join Together California?
