Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing efficient and courteous service to the customers. This includes but is not limited to, processing customers' prescriptions, assisting the Pharmacist in filling prescriptions, collecting monies, giving change, filing insurance claims, data entry into the computer, trouble-shooting insurance claims processing problems, counting, and packaging medicines, and receiving merchandise. 

Essential Job Duties:

Customer service

Process customers' prescriptions, by collecting the necessary information for the prescription based on the doctor's instructions; assists the Pharmacist in filling the prescription; enters information into the computer, packages the prescriptions; and files applicable insurance claims.

Calls third party insurance plans when unable to determine appropriate claim filing not achieved.

Collects payment and processes transactions on the Point-of-Sale system.

Provides correct change due to the customer.

Monitors inventory stock levels in Pharmacy, Home Health Care OTC section, and in Automation Device (if applicable)

Receives, unpacks, and checks in-coming pharmacy drugs and supplies.

Checks received merchandise against the purchase requisition or invoice.

Pre-packages and labels various pharmaceutical preparations.

Processes invoices for merchandise received and alerts Retails Support Center of price discrepancies.

Understand and abide by all company policies and procedures


Other Job Duties:

Maintain a filing a system for memorandums on procedures, third party plans, patient files.

Stocks and/or faces pharmacy Over-the-Counter (OTC) items.

Orders supplies from vendors.

Maintains working area, sales floor areas, shelves, and storage areas to ensure that they are clean and orderly at all times.

Performs quarterly inventory of items in the Automation Device (if applicable) and prepares pharmacy for inventory.

Pull and prepare expired merchandise to be returned to the wholesaler or return company.

Any tasks as deemed necessary by management


Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, stand for extended periods of time and participate in strenuous work.

Must have good communication skills, due to the area of work.


Mental Requirements:

Concentration required during all phases of processing customer's transactions and maintaining good customer relations.

Able to work under pressure.

Good memory for product identification and SKU codes.

Being aware of customer needs, questions, and instructions.

Must maintain neat appearance and well groomed.



Initiative Requirements:

Ability to use proper judgment when handling customer inquiries and complaints. Refers customers to the proper Management Staff if scope of the situation is beyond the position's responsibility.

Initiative required to assist in servicing of customers and taking on additional duties as assigned.

Assists customers in locating merchandise.

Maintains good customer relations (smiles, greets, and thanks customers). Pleasant personality at all times.



Working Conditions:

In general, work areas are clean and have ample space. The position required constant standing for long periods of time.

Qualifications:

Education/Training/Experience: High school graduate or within 1 year of receiving diploma with good math aptitude preferred. Math and metric knowledge.

oPossess acceptable written and verbal communication skills in English

Experience:

oCashiering or previous money handling preferred but not necessary.

oExperience or training dealing with public is desirable.

oPrior experience in pharmacy is preferred, but not necessary.

Responsibility to Equipment:

Responsible for properly maintaining, using, and caring for all equipment.

Reports any broken or malfunctioning equipment to the immediate supervisor for repair and/or maintenance.

Returns all equipment used to their proper location when they are no longer needed.


Responsibility to Times:

Promotes good customer relations at all times by smiling, greeting, and thanking customers.

Responsible for completing work assignments properly and efficiently.

Reports any problem areas or unsafe conditions to the immediate supervisor.

Supports and adheres to all Company programs, policies, and procedures.


Responsibility to Others:

Ensures that all work is performed in a safe manner in accordance with established guidelines to prevent injury to self and others.

Picks up and removes any objects or conditions which may create a hazard or danger to others.

Reports any hazards to the immediate supervisor.

Works together with others as a team to provide efficiency on the job and to promote good morale.


Authority:

No supervisory responsibilities. Position is limited to assisting others.

Compensation: Starting rate (as deemed by current pay schedule) or commensurate with experience.

Review and Guidance:

Perform responsibilities independently based upon knowledge and experience. Receives supervision from Lead Technicians, Pharmacist-in-Charge, and Pharmacy Manager.
