Job description

The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) plays a central clinical leadership role at Thrivewell Counseling Solutions, providing direct client care and overseeing the work of Mental Health Professionals (MHPs) on the team. The QMHP is responsible for delivering evidence-based, community-centered behavioral health services and ensuring the clinical integrity of individualized treatment plans. This role operates within a collaborative, trauma-informed care model and supports continuity of services 24 hours a day, seven days a week as necessary.


Key Responsibilities

CLINICAL SERVICES

  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and psychiatric diagnostic evaluations
  • Develop, authorize, and review individualized treatment plans addressing mental health, educational, vocational, residential, financial, and social needs
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based modalities (CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed approaches, etc.)
  • Deliver services in the home, school, office, and community settings; ensure the majority of services are community-based
  • Lead crisis assessment, safety planning, and intervention as needed

SUPERVISION & TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • Provide clinical supervision to Mental Health Professionals (MHPs) and other supervised staff per IDHS requirements
  • Facilitate monthly supervision meetings and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Collaborate with psychiatry, case management, peer support, and other providers to ensure continuity of care
  • Model professional standards and support agency culture, growth, and accountability

DOCUMENTATION & COMPLIANCE

  • Complete all clinical documentation within 48 hours of service delivery in accordance with IDHS, Medicaid (MHRS), and agency standards
  • Authorize and co-sign treatment plans, assessments, and service notes for supervised MHP staff as required
  • Submit reports timely and complete all mandatory trainings
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and uphold client confidentiality at all times


Minimum Qualifications

Per Illinois IDHS regulations, candidates must meet one of the following pathways.


Master’s Degree with Supervised Clinical Experience

Master’s degree in counseling and guidance, rehabilitation counseling, social work, vocational counseling, psychology, pastoral counseling, family therapy, or a related field plus a completed practicum or internship of at least 1,000 hours of supervised direct service, or 1 year of clinical experience under the supervision of a QMHP

LPHA Credential

Any individual meeting the minimum credentials for a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA) under Illinois Part 132 is automatically deemed to meet QMHP credentialing requirements


Licensed Social Worker (LSW)

Master’s degree in social work + LSW license under the Clinical Social Work and Social Work Practice Act [225 ILCS 20] + specialized training in mental health services or at least 2 years of mental health experience

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Master’s degree + LPC license under the Professional Counselor and Clinical Professional Counselor Licensing Act [225 ILCS 107] + specialized training in mental health services or at least 2 years of mental health experience

Registered Nurse (RN)

Active RN license under the Illinois Nurse Practice Act [225 ILCS 65] + at least 1 year of clinical experience in a mental health setting, or a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing

Occupational Therapist (OT)

Licensed OT under the Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act [225 ILCS 75] + at least 1 year of clinical experience in a mental health setting


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical supervision and constructive feedback to less-experienced staff
  • Well organized, adaptable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Sound clinical judgment, insight, and effective conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to pass a DCFS background check and applicable pre-employment screenings
