Job description

Summer Camp Leader


Salary Range:$18.10 per hour, up to 41.25 hours a week


Contract Position: June 15, 2026 to September 4, 2026


THEMUSEUM is looking for creative, enthusiastic and energetic Camp Leaders to facilitate our 2025 Summer Day Camps. This year's Summer Camps focus on a range of themes such as space, science, magic, medieval studies, history, circusry and many other STEM-related topics. You will also be bringing the campers to a local park daily (if the weather permits) and helping them experience THEMUSEUM's latest, interactive exhibits! Successful candidates will lead fun, educational and memorable experiences for our campers (ages 5-10) during their summer vacation.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver high-quality, educational camp programming such as hands-on activities, demonstrations and crafts
  • Prepare and lead recreational activities, games, and songs
  • Supervise and engage with campers in daily outdoor activities for 1 to 3 hours, weather permitting
  • Facilitate structured gallery exploration and supervised free-time in THEMUSEUM's exhibitions
  • Ensure the care, safety, and security of campers
  • Provide exceptional visitor experience and customer service
  • Manage group behavior and facilitate an inclusive and respectful environment for all campers
  • Communicate with parents/guardians as needed
  • Working as part of a team, collaborating with fellow Camp Leaders, and providing direction to camp volunteers and co-op students
  • Manage and track camp supplies, equipment and resources
  • Other duties as required

SKILLS:

  • Experience leading camp activities with children and youth
  • Passion for working with and educating children
  • Experience working in a customer service environment
  • Experience delivering oral presentations and communication
  • Demonstrate time management, leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to enthusiastically present accurate, engaging and age-appropriate programming
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and problem solve

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge/skills in one or more of the following areas: S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math), Education, Social Sciences, Recreation and Leisure, and/or Museum Studies.
  • First Aid/CPR (can be obtained after hiring)
  • A valid police background check (Vulnerable Sector)
  • Aged 18 years or older at the start of Summer Camp (July 2026)
  • Must be able to spend the majority (>60%) of the day standing and walking with the campers, and be able to lift at least 40 lbs.
