We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Social Work expansion in Laredo, TX, in partnership with The University of Texas Education and Research Center Laredo, as a Part-Time Lecturers beginning in the Fall 2022 semester of the 2022-2023 academic year.
The Department of Social Work at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) occasionally has the need to hire non-tenure track, part-time Lecturers to teach in its
Bachelor's/Masters of Social Work program. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction within the program.

Department/College Background

The School of Social Work was established in 2018 as an independent School and is under the leadership of Founding Dean Dr. Luis R. Torres-Hostos. The Department of Social Work has existed since the 1970s, most recently as part of Provost- Academic Affairs. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Social Work (SSW) is the only institution to offer programs leading to both the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree and the Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) degree south of San Antonio. Both programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). CSWE-COA voted to reaffirm the accreditation of the program for eight years, which extends through February 2023.

The BSW Program prepares students for generalist social work practice. Building on the generalist foundation, the MSSW program focuses on two concentrations: Direct Practice with Latino Individuals, Families, and Groups; and Community Practice and Administration. Its goals are to prepare graduates to practice with diverse, vulnerable, and at-risk populations to promote human well-being and social and economic justice, especially in the Texas-Mexico border region; to prepare graduates for leadership in developing and implementing policies and services for at-risk populations with an emphasis on the Texas-Mexico border region; and to develop the knowledge base of the social work profession, particularly as it relates to addressing the needs of at-risk populations with an emphasis on the Texas-Mexico border region. We offer all MSSW programs in two modalities, traditional on-campus and online. A PhD in Social Work is in the planning stages.
The School of Social Work is committed to preparing generalist and advanced professional social workers to meet the needs of a binational and multicultural community. The educational emphasis is on social work practice with Latinos considering multicultural competence, ethical practice, knowledge building, and social services that promote social and economic justice.

About our Laredo Social Work Program. This position is part of our Laredo expansion. As such, the successful candidate will be assigned to work primarily in Laredo/Webb County. The UTRGV School of Social Work has been offering undergraduate and graduate social work education in Laredo for the past 12 years. BSW and MSSW courses have been offered through a partnership with Laredo College in a combination of in-person, hybrid, and online formats.

Minimum Qualifications
MSW/MSSW from a CSWE-accredited social work program; five years post-master's degree practice experience; social work license or license eligibility. Social work license (LMSW or
LCSW) required for teaching clinical practice courses.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Social work license (LMSW or LCSW) required for teaching clinical practice courses.
Preferred Qualification
Social work teaching experience; experience in online teaching and distance education programs; bilingual (English and Spanish); knowledge of the cultural, social and economic characteristics of the United States/Mexico border region; and international experience.

Additional Information
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code 51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
