Role Description This is a part-time, on-site Bartender role based at The Norwood in Detroit, MI. The Bartender will prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, follow standardized recipes, and ensure responsible serving practices. Daily tasks include greeting guests, taking orders, managing tabs, operating the point-of-sale system, and handling cash and card transactions accurately. The Bartender will maintain a clean and organized bar area, restock supplies, check inventory levels, and support opening and closing duties. The role also involves engaging with guests professionally, answering questions about menu items, and collaborating with servers and other team members to deliver consistent, high-quality service.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a bartender or in a similar front-of-house role in a bar, restaurant, or hospitality environment.
  • Knowledge of common cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine, with the ability to follow recipes and maintain drink quality and consistency.
  • Strong customer service skills, including clear communication, active listening, and a friendly, professional demeanor with guests and team members.
  • Ability to handle cash and electronic payments accurately, use a point-of-sale system, and manage tabs in a fast-paced setting.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods, lift and carry bar supplies, and perform basic cleaning and restocking tasks safely.
  • Understanding of responsible alcohol service, including age verification and adherence to local laws and company policies.
  • Reliable attendance, flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and a collaborative attitude toward working with the broader team.
  • Relevant certifications such as alcohol server training or safety/food handling certification (or willingness to obtain) are beneficial.
