Job description

Judge Rotenberg Center:

The JUDGE ROTENBERG CENTER (JRC) is a day and residential school located in Canton, Massachusetts licensed to serve ages five through adult. Since 1971, JRC has provided very effective education and treatment to both emotionally disturbed students with conduct, behavior, emotional, and/or psychiatric problems, as well as those with intellectual disabilities or on the autism spectrum.

Our specific goal is to provide each individual with the least intrusive most effective form of treatment to ensure his/her safety, the safety of others, and promote healthy growth and development. JRC is committed to providing the most effective educational program possible

The Position:

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for a variety of duties including, but not limited to academic planning, delivering individualized and group instruction, assisting with daily living skills and person care instruction to the students. This position reports to the Special Education Director or his/her designee. It is a full time, salaried, exempt position. Hours of work may be varied dependent upon the licensure status of the teacher. Ten weeks' vacation is provided with this position. Hours of work are 9am-3pm. 

Educational/Work History Requirements:

Possesses a minimum of Bachelor degree (may obtain a waiver from Massachusetts Department of Education) if licensed in other area (s) or able to be licensed

Has license to teach in Massachusetts in appropriate area. (Moderate Special Needs, PreK-9 or 5-12, or Severe Special Needs, all levels)

Has the stamina and physical endurance for a demanding teaching schedule.

Possesses excellent problem solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Completes job with minimal supervision.

Works as many hours as necessary to complete the essential duties of the position.
