About the job

Join The EveryDay K9 Team

At The EveryDay K9, we believe that successful dog training extends far beyond teaching commands. Our mission is to create lasting change by educating both dogs and their owners through individualized, balanced training programs.

Unlike traditional dog walking companies, every dog in our walking program is either a current training client or has completed training with us in the past. Our walks are not simply about providing exercise. They are structured training sessions that reinforce the skills, behaviors, and expectations each dog has worked hard to learn.

We’re currently looking for a dependable, motivated, and detail-oriented Part-Time Dog Walker specifically for our Downtown Raleigh area. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being active, loves working with dogs, is comfortable working independently, and wants to play an important role in helping our clients maintain their dogs’ training.

Position Overview

This is a part-time position servicing clients located throughout the Downtown Raleigh area.

The position will generally consist of 2 client walks per day, Monday through Friday, for up to 10 walks per week. Each walk is 60 minutes long.

Our walking schedule changes seasonally to account for hot summer temperatures:

Summer Hours

Walks take place during our morning walking window, approximately 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM.

Winter Hours

Walks take place approximately 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM.

You’ll travel between clients’ homes throughout your shift, pick up dogs, transport them to their scheduled walking locations, complete their walks, and safely return them home.

Applicants must have reliable personal transportation, a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and a clean driving record.

Because you’ll be using your personal vehicle to travel between clients and transport dogs, applicants should be comfortable having dogs safely secured in their vehicle. Mileage and gas are not separately reimbursed.

Compensation

This position pays $25 per completed 60-minute walk.

The typical schedule is 2 walks per day, Monday through Friday, with up to 10 walks available per week.

About Our Walking Program

Every walk is completed from a training perspective.

Rather than simply exercising dogs, you’ll reinforce the same structure and expectations established during their training programs. Walks focus on calm behavior, engagement with the handler, loose leash walking, neutrality around distractions, and building consistency in real-world environments.

With two 60-minute walks per day, you can expect to walk approximately 4–5 miles total each day.

Because our walkers spend much of their day independently, we’re looking for someone we can trust to follow established training protocols, manage their schedule responsibly, communicate with our team, and represent The EveryDay K9 professionally while in our clients’ homes and throughout the Downtown Raleigh community.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to clients’ homes throughout the Downtown Raleigh area.
  • Pick up dogs from clients’ homes using your personal vehicle.
  • Safely transport dogs to and from their scheduled walking locations.
  • Complete two structured 60-minute training walks per day.
  • Reinforce each dog’s individual training goals throughout their walk.
  • Use our balanced training methods, including e-collar handling.
  • Reinforce proper leash manners, engagement, neutrality, and other previously learned behaviors.
  • Monitor each dog’s physical health, behavior, and overall well-being.
  • Return dogs safely to their homes after each walk.
  • Complete client updates following each walk.
  • Communicate observations, concerns, or changes in behavior with the training team.
  • Manage your daily route responsibly and remain punctual for scheduled walks.
  • Represent The EveryDay K9 professionally while interacting with clients and the public.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Is dependable and consistently punctual.
  • Has exceptional attention to detail.
  • Is comfortable working independently and managing their own daily route.
  • Enjoys working outdoors and being physically active.
  • Is comfortable walking approximately 4–5 miles each day.
  • Can confidently and safely handle dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
  • Is comfortable learning and implementing balanced training methods, including e-collars.
  • Has reliable personal transportation.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and a clean driving record.
  • Is comfortable transporting dogs in their personal vehicle.
  • Is professional, positive, and trustworthy when entering clients’ homes.
  • Communicates well and exercises good judgment when working independently.
  • Previous professional dog experience is appreciated but not required. We are happy to train the right individual who demonstrates reliability, professionalism, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Working Conditions

Applicants should be comfortable:

  • Completing two 60-minute walks per day.
  • Walking approximately 4–5 miles total each day.
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including rain, heat, humidity, and cold.
  • Driving throughout the Downtown Raleigh area.
  • Transporting dogs safely in their personal vehicle.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds when necessary.
  • Handling dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
  • Working independently while following established procedures, schedules, and training expectations.
  • Our walks take place rain or shine. Walks are only canceled in rare circumstances when weather creates unsafe driving conditions, such as icy roads.

Our walking program operates Monday through Friday and generally does not operate on Thanksgiving or Christmas.
