Stifel Fund Banking is the business banking platform within Stifel Bank focused on capital call (subscription) credit facilities, deposit accounts, and other commercial banking services for private investment funds across all asset classes including venture capital, private equity, private credit, and real estate (abbreviated “VC/PE”). The Fund Banking group consists of 10+ people and manages a portfolio of $8B+ in credit commitments spanning across 300+ investment firm client relationships. The Fund Banking group works closely with other investor-facing business units within Stifel such as Stifel Venture Banking with works directly with portfolio companies of venture capital funds.

This Director/Managing Director position will be the lead business development position for New York City and surrounding northeast geographies. In this role, you will be focused on building new Fund Banking / Fund Finance business with VC/PE firms and being the senior relationship manager to those firms.


  • Originate, develop, and maintain Fund Banking / Fund Finance business independently, primarily out of New York City.
  • Develop and maintain a network of venture capital and private equity firms. A high level of business development activity and relationship building will be expected. Strong presence in New York City is required.
  • Negotiate and structure Fund Banking / Fund Finance credit facilities from the ground up. Most facilities will be bilateral capital call (subscription) credit facilities with credit situational facilities to management companies and general partners.
  • Partner and cross-sell with peer departments at Stifel (Venture Banking, Investment Banking, Commercial Lending, Fixed Income, and Private Client) to identify and generate opportunities.
  • Assist in the management and coaching of new Fund Banking team members.  
  • Partner with Stifel portfolio managers, analysts and risk management to proactively manage and maintain desired credit quality. Strong underwriting and deal structuring skills are critical.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of the VC/PE and Fund Finance ecosystems along with Stifel’s broad offering of products

  • Direct experience in a business development role engaging with VC/PE funds
  • Knowledge of structuring and managing Fund Finance credit facilities
  • Knowledge of treasury management and depository needs of VC/PE firms and their fund administrators
  • Exposure and pre-existing relationships within the VC/PE ecosystem
  • Effective communication skills to properly interact with prospective clients, including senior partners at VC/PE firms
  • Experience managing effective teams. Strong team leadership skills with experience recruiting, coaching and developing talent pipeline
  • Outgoing and confident personality with the ability to attend many in-person industry events within the VC/PE ecosystem ecosystem

  • Minimum Required: Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field
  • Minimum Required: 7+ years of relevant experience required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook #LI-JK1

Salary: USD $200,000.00/Yr. - USD $300,000.00/Yr.
