Job description

ECO: Tecolote Canyon Natural Park Habitat Remediation

WILDCOAST has been restoring native plant habitats along the Gardena Loop Trail in Tecolote Canyon Natural Parkand needs volunteer support to keep these new plants happy and healthy.

Tecolote Canyon Natural Park is one of the few remaining, intact ecosystems in the heart of the City of San Diego, but has experienced habitat degradation from suburban development and invasive plant species.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to contribute to important habitat conservation work, learn about native ecosystems, and enjoy time connecting with nature in one of San Diego's most pristine open spaces.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Key Responsibilities:

Volunteers will be watering 1500 new plants in Tecolote Canyon and removing invasive weeds that threaten to steal water and other nutrients from thesensitive native species.

Skills & Qualifications:

No explicit skills are necessary besides a positive attitude, motivation, and ability to follow direction

Native plant identification, experience in gardening, or southern California native habitat restoration would be helpful

Attire: Closed-toeshoes, clothing you are comfortable getting wet or dirty, long sleeves, and long pants for sun and insect protection. This opportunity takes place outdoors with little or no shade, so volunteers should wear sun protection such as sunscreen and a hat.

Bring: Water, sunscreen, and bug spray

Physical Requirements: Volunteers should be comfortable walking, standing for prolonged periods, lifting up to 10 lbs, being exposed to direct heat and sun for prolonged periods, and bending. Unfortunately, this opportunity is not able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations and the space where this project takes place is not wheelchair accessible.

Weather: If the event is cancelled due to inclement weather or for any other reason, volunteers will be notified at least 24 hours in advanced
