Job description

Wage Range: Hourly $23.00 DOE

The Algae Technician will report to the Hatchery Manager. The Algae Technician will assist in all aspects of the algae production and ensure quality controls are being met to maximize production. They will work closely with Hatchery Manager, Algae Lead, Hatchery Supervisor and Operations Supervisor to satisfy production goals. More specific duties include the following:

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 

  • Maintain the productivity and consistency of algae systems
  • Monitor and evaluate algae health and performance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The employee is required to stoop, bend, kneel, twist, squat, or stand for daily tasks
  • The employee needs to be able to lift up to 50 lbs., or 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to speak and hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, supervisors and managers
  • Must be able to use hands for repetitive simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor of Science degree or 5 years microalgae production experience.
  • Experience in microalgae culture is preferred.
  • Experience using continuous culture and sterile techniques.
  • Must be able to work independently and in teams.
  • Must be self-motivated and organized.
  • Must be able to work some weekends and holidays.
  • May be required to do other tasks as needed.
