Job description
Director, Business Development & Origination | Litigation Finance
Remote | United States
Taylor Root is partnering with an established private capital platform to hire a Director focused on business development and transaction origination within litigation finance.
This is an externally facing role for someone who can develop senior relationships across the legal market, identify compelling financing opportunities and convert those relationships into an actionable transaction pipeline. The Director will work closely with underwriting and investment professionals as opportunities move from initial conversation through evaluation and execution.
The position offers significant autonomy and is well suited to someone who combines commercial instincts, relationship-building ability and an understanding of how capital solutions can address the economics of law firms and litigation.
Why This Opportunity
This is not a traditional sales role. The Director will sit at the intersection of relationship development, transaction origination and private capital, with direct responsibility for identifying opportunities that can ultimately become investments.
For someone with a strong network and an origination mindset, the role offers the ability to build a national market presence while working alongside experienced investment and underwriting professionals. Remote within the United States.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a national pipeline of prospective litigation finance opportunities
- Build relationships with law firm partners, litigation boutiques, case originators and other relevant market participants
- Identify potential single-case and portfolio financing opportunities through direct outreach, referrals, industry relationships and intermediary channels
- Lead initial commercial conversations with prospective partners and determine whether opportunities align with the firm’s investment parameters
- Work with law firms to understand their financing needs and position appropriate capital solutions
- Conduct initial assessment of prospective opportunities before transitioning them into formal underwriting
- Remain actively involved throughout the transaction process, partnering with investment and underwriting teams as opportunities progress
- Develop a strong understanding of individual firms, litigation portfolios, economics and capital requirements
- Expand the firm’s network and market presence through targeted relationship development and industry engagement
- Provide market intelligence on competitive activity, financing trends and evolving opportunities within litigation finance
- Maintain accountability for origination activity, pipeline development and ultimately funded transactions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; JD, MBA or other relevant advanced degree is advantageous
- 5+ years of experience in transaction origination, business development, deal sourcing or a closely related commercial role
- Relevant experience may come from litigation finance, legal services, private credit, private equity, specialty finance or another relationship-driven investment environment
- Demonstrated ability to originate opportunities and develop senior relationships with partners, founders, executives or other sophisticated decision-makers
- Strong commercial judgment with the ability to evaluate opportunities at an initial level before engaging investment or underwriting teams
- Understanding of litigation finance, law firm economics or complex financing structures is highly desirable
- Ability to communicate financial concepts and structures clearly to a legal and commercially sophisticated audience
- Comfortable owning a pipeline independently and operating in an entrepreneurial, performance-oriented environment
