Job description

Product Control Manager - Retail Energy
A growing energy organization is seeking a Product Control Manager to lead margin reporting, valuation oversight, financial controls, and reconciliation activities across its retail energy portfolio. This individual will serve as a key link between Commercial, Risk, Accounting, Settlements, and FP&A, ensuring that portfolio performance, obligations, and financial results are accurately measured, understood, and communicated.
This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to influence business processes, strengthen control frameworks, and provide senior leadership with meaningful insight into portfolio performance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the product control and margin reporting processes supporting a retail power portfolio.
  • Reconcile expected versus realized margin and explain key drivers of financial performance.
  • Oversee valuation and reporting of energy and environmental products, including Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), capacity-related products, and other market obligations.
  • Partner with Commercial, Risk, Accounting, Settlements, and FP&A teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Review and challenge pricing assumptions, valuation inputs, and portfolio results where appropriate.
  • Develop and enhance controls, reconciliations, and reporting processes to improve transparency, consistency, and audit readiness.
  • Lead initiatives focused on data quality, process improvement, system enhancements, and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare analyses and presentations for senior leadership highlighting performance drivers, exposures, trends, and risks.
  • Support month-end and quarter-end close activities related to commodity margin reporting and portfolio valuation.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in Product Control, Energy Accounting, Commercial Finance, Risk, or a related function within the energy industry.
  • Strong experience supporting power portfolios and retail energy operations.
  • Direct experience with Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), environmental products, capacity markets, or resource adequacy programs is required.
  • Deep understanding of commodity valuation concepts, margin reporting, reconciliations, and financial controls.
  • Experience working closely with trading, commercial, risk, and accounting teams.
  • Proven ability to build and improve control frameworks, reporting processes, and operational workflows.
  • Leadership experience or demonstrated ability to influence across multiple functions.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with ETRM platforms and advanced Excel skills required.
  • Natural gas market exposure is a plus.
