Role Description The Service Technician role is a full-time, hybrid position based in Chicago, IL, with a mix of on-site field work and some work-from-home tasks such as documentation and scheduling. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing routine aquarium maintenance, equipment cleaning, water testing, and system inspections for freshwater and saltwater setups. The technician will install and repair pumps, filters, lighting, and other aquarium components, troubleshoot issues affecting water quality or livestock health, and provide field service at homes, businesses, restaurants, and commercial locations. The role includes interacting with clients, explaining service work, offering care recommendations, and ensuring a high standard of customer satisfaction. Additional responsibilities may include assisting in the retail showroom, coordinating with the operations team on service routes, and maintaining accurate service records.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong Maintenance & Repair skills, including experience with aquarium or similar mechanical systems.
  • Candidates should possess effective Troubleshooting skills to diagnose water quality, equipment, and livestock issues.
  • Candidates should possess Field Service experience, including working independently at client sites and managing service schedules.
  • Candidates should possess solid Customer Service skills to communicate clearly, build rapport, and provide client education.
  • Candidates should possess general Maintenance skills, such as routine inspections, cleaning, and basic tools usage.
  • Knowledge of freshwater and saltwater aquarium care, including filtration, chemistry, and livestock handling, is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment, work safely with water and electrical components, and follow safety protocols.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and reliability in documenting services and following procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license and comfort traveling within the Chicago area for field service visits.
  • Previous experience in aquatics, pet care, facilities maintenance, or a related technical field is a plus.
