Job description

WHO WE ARE:

While we are based in Austin on the north lawn of the Texas State Capitol, we have offices statewide. WHO YOU ARE:
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of state and federal Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and/or Fair Housing laws.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Investigator III will perform complex (journey-level) investigative work. Employees at this level may work more independently than those at the previous levels, may provide guidance to other investigators, and may:
- Review investigative techniques and recommend improvements.
- Advise and/or provide training to regulated businesses.
YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:
- Conduct intake to gather information from callers who have complaints regarding Fair Housing.
- Determine jurisdiction and refer customers to federal, state and local agencies as appropriate.
- Draft complaints of discrimination and/or amendments and conduct investigations into allegations within jurisdiction.
- Have personal interaction with complaining party, responding party, and their representatives to gather initial facts and information regarding
potential violations.
- Plan, organize and conduct investigations by personal contact, examination of records, performing desk reviews, interviewing potential
witnesses and if necessary, on-site investigations.
- Issue requests for information and drafts and process subpoenas as necessary.
- Attempt pre-and post-determination conciliation/settlement with all parties.
- Recommend administrative dismissal, reasonable cause, or no reasonable cause in written reports of determination.
- Evaluate, summarize, and accurately document investigative activities and findings and maintain organized hard copy and electronic case files.
- Prepare case files for presentation during TWC formal administrative hearings or court proceedings and testify.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports while managing multiple cases concurrently.
- Complete special projects and other work as needed or assigned.
YOU QUALIFY WITH:
- One year and six months of full-time experience performing auditing or investigating work; or unemployment insurance claims examiner tasks; or gathering of information, interviewing, counseling or in the instruction, demonstration, and interpretation of policies in a public or private enterprise.
- Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:
- Ability to type at least 35 words per minute is strongly preferred.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
