Job description

TVT Community Day School seeks a Varsity Coach to join the afterschool Athletic Program in the Upper School .

Under general direction of the Division Head, Athletic Director, and Associate Athletic Director, assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to an interscholastic sports program; to instruct and train student-athletes and teams in attaining proficiency in sport related functions; and to do other related functions as directed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate the school site interscholastic sports program.
  • Work with administrators to recruit, select, mentor, train, and supervise an effective coaching staff.
  • Supervise students during practice, games, tournaments, and team travel.
  • Arrange for team games, schedules, tournaments, and transportation.
  • Suggest any necessary team equipment and supplies that need to be ordered.
  • Provide teaching and instruction in athletic skill development.
  • Observe sport participants during practice and workout sessions to detect and correct errors in activity procedures and methods.
  • Instruct, explain, and enforce health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Develop and implement physical conditioning programs that allow athletes to achieve maximum performance.
  • Collaborate with administrators and athletic trainers. Review, audit, and monitor sport activity related injuries and follows protocol regarding injuries and return to play standards.
  • Assess the athletic team skills and abilities and the opponents capabilities and determines game strategies.
  • Confer with, counsel, and advise site administrators concerning interscholastic sports programs.
  • Work effectively with all school and community stakeholders including media and press.
  • Ensure student-athletes are academically eligible for interscholastic sports.
  • Consistently submit athletic contest results to athletic director, school website, Max Preps, OC Varsity, and any other designated media outlets.
  • Maintain a MYTVT Team Page that is informative, up to date, and communicative.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, goals, and objectives of TVT and CIF.
  • Methods, techniques, procedures, and strategies concerning the development and maintenance of an effective interscholastic sports program.
  • Sports interest groups and organizations within the local community.
  • Modern trends and strategies pertaining to interscholastic sports.

Ability to:

  • Provide teaching and instruction in athletic skill development.
  • Analyze and assess interscholastic sports program needs, and offer recommendations pertaining to program revisions, additions, or deletions.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls. In addition, communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
  • NFHS Concussion in Sports
  • NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)
  • First Aid/CPR
