Job description

The WellHouse, Greater Birmingham, Alabama, seeks an experienced visionary chief executive officer to assume primary responsibility for and management of this human service organization. Through strategic leadership and working alongside the Board of Directors and other senior staff members, the CEO is responsible for the establishment and achievement of long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies toward the organizations sustainable mission and vision.

The WellHouse is a nationally recognized emergency, short-term, and long-term restoration program for female victims of human trafficking. With an overall staff of thirty plus (three direct reports), the CEO supervises a 63-acre campus-based facility with an average of 35 residents and an annual operating budget of some $4 million. Since its founding in 2010, The WellHouse has served more than 700 individuals from across the United States.

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • A minimum of five years of previous successful non-profit leadership.
  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in Public Administration, Social Work, or similar (a masters degree is preferred);
  • Demonstrated ability to work alongside board and community volunteers;
  • Proven ability to manage multi-layered budgets, project/facility planning, and personnel issues;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large program staff in sometimes urgent/stressful situations that can include law enforcement officials;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, and solicit significant funding from government, corporate, foundation and individual donors;
  • Ability to meet and communicate effectively with people (boards/volunteers/funders);
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team network and environment with strong organizational, engagement and planning skills;
  • Ability to prepare and present sent data/facts, stories and inspirations to large and small groups of interested friends, supporters and advocates;
  • Self-motivation and goal-oriented skills; and
  • Current or previous work/volunteer experience within the domestic violence/human trafficking or other faith-based networks is preferred but not required.
