At Syngenta Crop Protection, we're pioneering solutions that safeguard global food security while championing sustainable agriculture. As a world market leader headquartered in Switzerland, we empower farmers with innovative crop protection technologies that defend against nature's toughest challenges. We unite advanced science with digital solutions to develop intelligent crop protection that maximizes yields while minimizing environmental impact. Join our mission of revolutionizing plant protection from seed to harvest.

Job Description

At Syngenta, our goal is to build the most collaborative and trustworthy team in agriculture, providing top-quality seeds and innovative crop protection solutions that improve farmers' success. To support this mission, Syngenta is seeking an Environmental Fate and Exposure Scientist who will be responsible for evaluating the environmental fate of our active ingredients and modeling exposure to support labeled use patterns and provide input to regulatory risk assessments.

The role comprises developing a science strategy to meet techno-regulatory requirements and ensuring the creation of top-tier submission packages to support the maintenance, re-registration, and development of crop protection products for Syngenta in the United States and Canada.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead environmental exposure projects across various stages of pesticide active ingredient development, leveraging extensive scientific expertise and robust stakeholder management skills.
  • Provide technical input into the environmental fate strategy for the development and registration of new active ingredients/products and maintenance of registered active ingredients/products within North America.
  • Conduct ecological and drinking water exposure assessments for the U.S. EPA and Canadian PRD by using regulatory exposure models for surface water and groundwater to support new and existing registrations of Syngenta products for registration and re-registration risk assessments.
  • Provide strategic and exposure modeling support for endangered species risk assessments of pesticide active ingredients.
  • Lead pesticide management and projects involving off-target movement and exposure mitigation (i.e., runoff, drift, and flux).
  • Contribute to the development of methodologies, data, and studies specific to Syngenta products, such as analytical methods, terrestrial and aquatic field dissipation, and laboratory metabolism.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Science with at least 5 years of experience, or a Ph.D., in a field related to environmental science, hydrology, soil science, soil physics, environmental or agricultural engineering, or environmental chemistry.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with experience preparing and presenting technical information.
  • Ability to plan, organize, adapt, and develop technical skills in disciplines beyond the core area of expertise.
  • Ability to manage several complex priorities simultaneously while ensuring delivery.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously while delivering business priorities and ensuring project timelines are met, with the flexibility to transition as needs change.
  • Aptitude to synthesize regulatory policies and risk assessments to develop and execute strategies relevant to Syngenta product registration.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with, and understanding of, the environmental fate inputs of FIFRA-related Risk Assessments and Endangered Species Assessments.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the following areas:
    • Regulatory models used in environmental risk assessments, such as PWC, SWCC, PRZM, VVWM, PRZM-GW, PFAM, VFSMOD, CAKE, and PESTDF, as well as statistical procedures used in environmental sciences.
    • Experience with off-target movement, such as drift (AgDRIFT and AgDISP) and field flux modeling.
    • Experience in model development, programming (R, Python, etc.), mathematical modeling, and utilization of AI-based tools for data analysis and work efficiencies.
    • GIS expertise and experience considered an asset.
    • Background and understanding of the agrochemical industry.
Additional Information

What We Offer:

  • A culture that celebrates belonging and collaboration, promotes professional development and strives for a work-life balance that supports the team members. Offers flexible work options to support your work and personal needs.
