Job description

Overview

The Endoscopy Technician, under the supervision of the Clinical Manager and Charge RN or Clinical Coordinator, is responsible for preparing supplies and equipment for interventions, using appropriate techniques. The Endoscopy Technician assists and/or performs patient procedures that are within the scope of their unit specific Skills Summation. S/he seeks assistance and support when necessary, assists in data collection, organizes those aspects of patient care for which s/he is responsible, and maintains accountability for own practice and those functions delegated to the Endoscopy Technician. Within a specified work period, provides care that is consistent with overall admission to post-discharge plan.


Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Assists the health care team during for pre, intra, and post procedure patient care including specimen handling.

* Processes and requests provider orders to RN.

* Provides psychological and social support for patient/families.

* Transports patients to and from unit as well as discharge.


Observation/Documentation
* Completes a thorough observation at time of contact. Updates when care and practice indicate a change in patient status.

* Observes and communicates changes to RN.

* Reports and implements corrective action, as directed by RN, based on the recognition of subtle changes in the condition of the patient.

* Addresses technical needs to meet patient conditions.

* Documents intervention and patient's response to interventions and any changes in patient condition on CIS.

* Communicates and documents expressed patient/family needs.

* Communicates need for appropriate referrals to RN.


Equipment/Supplies
* Manages equipment and supplies.

* Demonstrates knowledge in use of department medical equipment.

* Refer to unit specific competency summation.

* Process equipment to provide proper and safe disinfection or sterilization.

*Manages equipment, accessories, and supplies, including equipment troubleshooting and sending for repair.

* Maintains inventory of all supplies.


Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practices in a safe and cost-effective manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training within the specified time frame.


Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED- Required

Certification and Licensure:

BLS (American Heart Assoc)- Required upon hire

SGNA certification- Preferred

Experience:

Recent experience as Endoscopy Tech- Preferred
