Overview
The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (formerly Rutgers Center for Tobacco Studies) is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth. The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation's leading tobacco focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute's efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.
Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center.
Posting Summary
Rutgers is seeking a Post Doctoral Associate for the Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies, located in New Brunswick, NJ. Under the direction of Institute Faculty member Dr. Jamie Tam, the Post Doctoral Associate will support and conduct simulation modeling research related to tobacco and lung cancer prevention and control.
Duties include:
  • Conducts data analysis using secondary data sources, such as national surveys of health behavior, substance use (e.g. tobacco, alcohol, cannabis), and cancer-related topics.
  • Collaborate on projects related to tobacco and lung cancer as member of a multidisciplinary team of modelers, epidemiologists, and economists.
  • Development, calibrate, and extend of microsimulation and compartmental models of tobacco use and lung cancer in R.
  • Receive training in modeling methods, professional development, and grant-writing.
  • Prepares written reports and presentations for conferences and meetings with collaborators across multiple institutions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Doctoral degree in epidemiology, public health, mathematics, behavioral science, health services research, economics, or a related discipline that provides training and skills in quantitative methods.
  • Must have high proficiency in R and/or other computer programming languages.
  • Applicants in All But Degree Status will be considered for interviews.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with computational or simulation modeling methods
  • Experience with complex survey data analytic methods
  • Familiarity with tobacco control and/or cannabis control and/or alcohol control.
  • Strong analytic skills.
  • Existing publication track record and excellent oral and written communication skills.
