About the Company:
This position is with an established Miami consulting engineering firm that has been designing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in South Florida for more than fifty years. The firm is partner led, and its principals are practicing professional engineers who stay on their own projects. The portfolio is high-rise residential, hospitality, mixed-use, and institutional work, including towers currently in design and under construction in Miami. The firm designs in Revit on an in-house BIM standard it developed itself, and its project teams are small enough that an engineer works directly with the partner running the job. Suarez Assistant is running this search on the firm's behalf and gives candidates the firm's name on the first call.
Job Description:
The Electrical Engineer will design electrical systems for high-rise and large commercial projects from concept through construction documents, working directly in Revit at the firm's Miami office. The role sits on an integrated project team with mechanical, plumbing, architectural, and project management staff, and follows a project from early load and distribution decisions through permitting and construction administration. This is a design seat rather than a review seat, and the firm expects its engineers to model their own work instead of marking up drawings for a drafter.
Responsibilities of the role:
• Design electrical systems for high-rise, large commercial, and mixed-use projects.
• Produce and coordinate construction documents directly in Revit.
• Perform power distribution, lighting, and electrical load calculations.
• Size feeders, panels, and service equipment and develop single line diagrams.
• Coordinate electrical scope with the mechanical, plumbing, and architectural teams.
• Resolve model clashes before drawings are issued.
• Prepare permit sets and respond to plan review comments.
• Answer requests for information and review submittals during construction administration.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• EIT certification or PE license.
• Demonstrated experience on large projects and high-rise design.
• Ability to design directly in Revit, which is mandatory for this role.
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and the Florida Building Code.
• Experience carrying a project from schematic design through construction documents.
• Able to work on-site in Miami, Florida, full time.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Skills:
• Florida PE license, or a PE eligible for licensure by endorsement.
• Experience taking projects through Miami-Dade or Broward permitting.
• Hospitality, mixed-use, or institutional project experience.
• Lighting and photometric design.
• Navisworks or other BIM coordination tools.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Personality:
• Takes ownership of a project end to end.
• Comfortable being the electrical voice in a coordination meeting.
• Careful with documents that go out for permit.
• Communicates clearly with architects and contractors.
• Raises problems early rather than at issue.
Software & Tools:
• Revit
• AutoCAD
• Navisworks
• SKM, ETAP, or similar power systems software
• AGi32 or Visual for lighting
• Bluebeam Revu
• Microsoft Office
Training will be provided on the firm's specific standards, templates, and workflows.
Schedule:
Full time and on-site at the firm's Miami office, Monday through Friday during standard business hours. The office is in the Coral Gables and South Miami area of Miami-Dade County. This role is on-site five days a week with no remote or hybrid option, so candidates should be confident they can make that commute daily on a long-term basis. Immediate start, with flexibility for a candidate serving notice.
Salary and Benefits:
• Compensation is competitive for the South Florida market and set by experience and licensure. The range is discussed on the first call.
• Full time and permanent, directly with the engineering firm.
• Continuous high-rise and large-project work rather than small tenant fit-outs.
• Direct working access to the firm's principals.
Applications:
Apply through LinkedIn with a resume. Portfolios and sample drawing sets are reviewed and move an application up the list. Applicants who include a PE or EIT license number and the issuing state are reviewed first, since every license is verified with the state board.
