Assistant Property Manager – Self Storage | Brooklyn, NY
We are seeking a motivated, dependable, and customer-focused Assistant Property Manager to support the daily operations of a self-storage facility in Brooklyn, New York.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on professional who enjoys working with customers, has strong sales skills, takes pride in maintaining a clean and professional property, and is looking for long-term growth with an expanding company.
Position Overview
The Assistant Property Manager works closely with the Property Manager to support the successful day-to-day operations of the self-storage facility, including sales, customer service, collections, property upkeep, administrative responsibilities, and overall facility operations.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, proactive, and comfortable handling a variety of responsibilities throughout the day. This position requires someone who can provide excellent customer service while also assisting with the operational and physical needs of the property.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Property Manager with daily facility operations
  • Drive unit rentals and contribute toward occupancy, sales, and revenue goals
  • Convert phone, online, and walk-in inquiries into rentals through strong follow-up and sales techniques
  • Sell retail merchandise, including locks, boxes, tape, and packing supplies
  • Provide exceptional customer service in person, by phone, and through email
  • Assist customers with move-ins, move-outs, transfers, billing questions, payments, and account management
  • Follow up on past-due accounts and assist with collections and auction-related processes
  • Conduct regular property inspections and maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization, safety, and appearance
  • Ensure vacant units are clean, secure, and rental-ready
  • Perform property upkeep and light maintenance, including sweeping, mopping, cleaning units, changing light bulbs, removing debris, painting touch-ups, and basic troubleshooting
  • Identify and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns
  • Monitor security cameras, gate systems, alarms, and property access activity
  • Open and close the property according to company procedures
  • Maintain accurate customer records, rental agreements, payment information, and operational documentation
  • Complete required reports, data entry, filing, inventory tracking, and administrative responsibilities accurately and on time
  • Assist with maintaining office, retail, and facility supplies
  • Support local marketing efforts, promotions, online lead follow-up, outreach, and community engagement
  • Handle customer questions, concerns, and conflict-resolution situations professionally and efficiently
  • Follow company policies, safety procedures, and operational standards
  • Assist with facility operations and assume additional responsibilities in the Property Manager's absence
  • Maintain a professional appearance, positive attitude, and strong sense of ownership of the property
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
  • Previous customer service, retail, sales, property management, or similar experience preferred
  • Strong sales and customer service skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable using computers, POS systems, email, and basic office software
  • Self-motivated, dependable, detail-oriented, and accountable
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Comfortable performing physical and light maintenance-related duties
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. when necessary
  • Weekend availability required
  • Must be able to reliably commute to Brooklyn, New York

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check
  • Self-storage experience is a plus, but not required

Pay: $21.00+ per hour, depending on experience
