Job description

 
We are seeking a detail-oriented Epidemiologist to support nonfatal overdose surveillance and syndromic data initiatives. You will lead efforts in evaluating case definitions for emerging substances, building automated trend reports, and integrating state surveillance systems.
Position Details
 
  • Location: Nashville, TN 37243
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Required 1 day/week on-site)
  • Interview Process: Webcam or In-Person
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Surveillance Development: Lead nonfatal overdose tracking using ESSENCE and propose definitions for emerging drug classes (medetomidine, vape/cannabis products).
  • Data Integration: Collaborate to bridge ESSENCE data with REDCap and internal health monitoring systems.
  • Automated Reporting: Build and manage monthly overdose burden reports and automated trend dashboards.
  • Technical Guidance: Perform data quality assurance and present trends to public health stakeholders.
Key Requirements & Skills
 
  • Education: Master’s degree (MPH, MS) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or Public Health preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: ESSENCE, SAS, SQL, R, Tableau, and REDCap.
  • Experience: Background in public health surveillance, syndromic data, statistical modeling, and large administrative datasets.
  • Residency: Must be a Tennessee resident (or fully establish TN residency prior to day 1).
