Summary -
Voith Hydro is seeking a talented and motivated Automation and Instrumentation Engineer to join our North American team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of automation and instrumentation systems for hydroelectric power plants. This role involves ensuring system reliability, optimizing control strategies, and collaborating with various departments to achieve project objectives.
Responsibilities -
  • Design and develop automation and instrumentation solutions for hydroelectric power generation systems.
  • Configure and program PLCs, HMIs and SCADA systems to support plant operations.
  • Design the instrumentation of hydroelectric turbine-generator units: selection of instruments, junction boxes, cable lists, electrical connection diagrams, cable trays and electrical conduits, electrical load calculations, etc.
  • Perform system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industrial standards and safety regulations.
  • Provide technical support and training to quality, procurement, service teams, and plant operators.
  • Develop technical specifications and procedures for equipment procurement and/or manufacturing.
  • Interface with clients on all technical matters and inquiries.

Qualifications -
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automation, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation, preferably in the hydroelectric or energy sector.
  • Proficient in programming and configuring automation platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider).
  • Strong understanding of control system architecture and industrial communication protocols.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards.
