Job description

Job Position: Correction Officer

Status: Full time

Salary: Starting at $52,000

Hours:

  • 6/3 rotating shifts
  • 8-hour shifts

Location: 401 W Sample Street South Bend, Indiana 46601

Job Summary: Supervises inmates in the St. Joseph County Jail in accordance with established policies, regulations, orders and procedures by performing the required duties.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Supervise, monitor, and control inmate activities within the facility
    • Enforce rules, regulations, and safety procedures in accordance with department policies
    • Conduct inmate counts, searches, and inspections of cells and common areas
    • Escort inmates within the facility and to outside appointments or court appearances
    • Maintain detailed and accurate logs and reports
    • Respond promptly to emergencies and disturbances
    • Promote a safe, secure, and respectful environment for staff and inmates

    Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Must have a high school diploma or GED
    • Must be in good standing with the BMV
    • No felony convictions on record
    • Must successfully complete:
      • Background investigation
      • Board interview
      • Personal interview
      • CVSA (Computer Voice Stress Analysis)
      • Drug screening
