Job description

Position Summary The Operations Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day execution of Spur Industrial's manufacturing and field operations. This role ensures projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within quality standards while supporting the Director of Operations in achieving the company's strategic growth objectives. The Operations Manager serves as the operational leader responsible for translating strategic priorities into daily execution by coordinating Production, Project Management, Quality, Purchasing, Shipping, Maintenance, and Field Operations. This position is responsible for driving accountability, operational discipline, continuous improvement, and leadership development throughout the organization. Primary Responsibilities Daily Operations Leadership
  • Lead daily production and operations meetings.
  • Coordinate priorities between Production, Project Management, Purchasing, Engineering, and Field Operations.
  • Monitor production flow and remove operational bottlenecks.
  • Balance labor resources across departments.
  • Ensure customer commitments remain on schedule.
  • Escalate operational risks to the Director of Operations before they impact customers.
Manufacturing Operations
  • Oversee daily fabrication operations.
  • Monitor shop capacity and utilization.
  • Ensure work orders flow efficiently through fabrication, welding, blasting, coating, assembly, and shipping.
  • Improve throughput while maintaining quality standards.
  • Coordinate with the Production Manager to maximize labor productivity.
Field Operations
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, and scheduling for field installation crews.
  • Ensure field activities align with project schedules and customer expectations.
  • Support Project Managers in resolving execution challenges.
  • Monitor field productivity and resource utilization.
Production Scheduling
  • Maintain and communicate the master production schedule.
  • Coordinate engineering releases, material availability, and labor capacity.
  • Prioritize work based on customer commitments and operational constraints.
  • Ensure schedule adherence across all departments.
Safety Leadership
  • Promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Conduct regular safety reviews.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses.
  • Ensure OSHA compliance.
  • Hold supervisors accountable for safe work practices.
Quality Management
  • Support quality assurance initiatives.
  • Reduce rework and fabrication defects.
  • Ensure customer specifications are consistently met.
  • Drive root-cause corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement
  • Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Improve workflow efficiency.
  • Reduce waste.
  • Improve labor utilization.
  • Standardize best practices.
  • Implement visual management tools.
  • Drive measurable operational improvements.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Coach Production Manager and frontline supervisors.
  • Develop future leaders.
  • Conduct performance evaluations.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and employee development.
  • Foster accountability and teamwork throughout operations.
Customer Support
  • Support Project Managers in meeting customer expectations.
  • Participate in operational reviews.
  • Assist with resolving customer concerns related to production or execution.
  • Maintain a customer-first mindset throughout the organization.
Financial Responsibilities Support the Director of Operations by:
  • Monitoring labor efficiency.
  • Managing overtime.
  • Controlling operating costs.
  • Tracking operational KPIs.
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Supporting annual budgeting activities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent leadership experience.

  • Experience in steel fabrication, structural steel, industrial manufacturing, or heavy industrial operations preferred.
  • Strong understanding of production scheduling and capacity planning.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong business acumen and operational decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership abilities.
  • Experience utilizing ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office.
