Sprint Rail Partners

The Railroad Conductor coordinates the daily activity of the train and train crew, ensuring the timely operation of the train. This position will direct and assist the train crew, providing training and demonstration of appropriate methods for connecting and uncoupling cars, operation of switches, and making repairs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages and facilitates the safe and efficient operation of the train and crew.
• Inspects train and equipment prior to departure to ensure that equipment is in safe working condition and is in compliance with regulations and requirements.
• Communicates with other crew members through radio
• Maintains vigilant observation of train, reporting any suspicious activities and taking appropriate actions.
• Ensures the safety of bystanders and crew members
• Assists Locomotive Engineer with operation of locomotive equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

• High school education or general education development (GED).
• Must have a valid driver's license
• 242 certification
• Minimum of two (2) years experience operating locomotives with current certification
• Excellent verbal communication and leadership skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Thorough understanding of railroad and train safety, policies, and procedures

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to work in outside weather conditions and elements, noise, and fumes from gas, oil, and grease.
• Prolonged periods of standing and traversing railroad cars and tracks.
• Must be able to visually inspect locomotive vehicles in all types of weather.
• Must be able to lift, push, pull, climb, sit, and stand.
• Must be able to identify and distinguish colors and hear warning signals.
• Must be able to walk up to a mile on rough terrain.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at a time.
