Spring Living Retirement Communities (springliving.ca) is a boutique, rapidly growing Canadian senior living owner/operator. We own and operate retirement communities in Ontario and Quebec and plan to expand across Canada over the next five years.

Job Overview

The Director of Recreation will plan, organize, and implement meaningful programs for residents. This role reports to the Executive Director and works closely with residents, families, volunteers, and staff.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and implement meaningful programs for residents in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Build monthly activity calendars to match resident needs with a variety of activities.
  • Maintain appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation and charting.
  • Maintain effective communication and human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events.
  • Attend in-service education to stay informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly.
  • Participate in team meetings to plan programs with residents’ interests in mind.
  • Facilitate residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings.
  • Assess individual resident activity levels.
  • Prepare, carry out and evaluate daily activities.
  • Assist with meal services as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent (required).
  • Previous experience working with seniors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
  • Valid provincial driver’s licence to transport residents by van (e.g., Class 4, Class F).
  • Current (within six months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
