Job description

About South Bay Blasters

South Bay Blasters is a non-profit youth baseball team founded / coached by former NY Mets Captain, David Wright.

SBB is focused on developing young players through high-quality coaching, strong fundamentals, and a positive, development-first culture. Our 6U and 8U teams train in Manhattan Beach building skills and a love for the game from the ground up.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Pitching Coach to lead the pitching and throwing development of our 8U players. This is a specialized, practice-focused role: you will own the throwing and pitching portion of team practices, teaching age-appropriate mechanics, building arm strength safely, and introducing our players to the fundamentals of pitching. You will work alongside our head coach and David Wright. This is a part-time, 1099 independent contractor position for the 2026-2027 season.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the pitching and throwing development segment of team practices for 8U
  • Teach age-appropriate throwing mechanics, fundamentals, and the basics of the pitching position
  • Design and run simple, structured throwing progressions tailored to young players
  • Monitor throwing workload and pitch counts to protect developing arms
  • Emphasize arm care, safety, and injury prevention in every session
  • Build players' confidence, focus, and competitiveness on the mound

Schedule

The Pitching Coach leads the pitching and throwing portion of regular team practices. This role is practice-focused - attendance at weekend league games and tournaments is not required.

  • Fall (Aug 31, 2026 - Nov 19, 2026) - main development season: Two practices per week - Monday and Thursday 5:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Spring (Feb 1 - May 21, 2027) - return to play: Monday 5:00-7:00 p.m. practices at American Martyrs Field and potentially one more day.

Qualifications

  • Experience coaching or instructing youth baseball, with a focus on pitching and/or throwing mechanics
  • Strong understanding of age-appropriate throwing development, pitch counts, and arm care/injury prevention for young players
  • Patient, positive, and energetic style suited to working with 6-8 year olds
  • Strong communication with players, parents, and coaching staff
  • Background check and SafeSport certification (or willingness to obtain)

Compensation & Structure

  • Part-time, 1099 independent contractor
  • Pay rate / structure: $40 to $75 Per Hour (depending on experience)
