Job description

Join Sourcebooks' growing People team as an HR Generalist, supporting day-to-day HR operations across our multi-state workforce with a focus on compliance administration. You'll also partner with our Sr. Director of HR on organizational development and compensation reviews, building your generalist foundation while gaining exposure to the strategic side of HR. It's an exciting opportunity to contribute to a talented HR team in a creative, growth-mindset environment — for a collaborative team player who thrives in an agile setting.
This position is based at Sourcebooks' Naperville, IL headquarters, this hybrid role requires in-office presence three days per week and is not eligible for fully remote work.
This is an exempt, salaried position with an annual salary range of $72,000 - $75,000. We determine starting pay based on job-related factors such as geographic location, market conditions, experience, and education — ensuring fair, competitive compensation for both company and candidate.
What you'll do:
  • Serve as a trusted HR point of contact, providing day-to-day support and guidance across the employee lifecycle, including investigations and corrective action.
  • Support compliance across Sourcebooks' 20-state footprint — handbook review, required postings, notices, and leave law tracking (FMLA, ADA, state sick and parental leave).
  • Assist with EEO-1 and other compliance reporting, and monitor employment law changes affecting policy.
  • Partner with the Sr. Director of HR on organizational development, including org chart maintenance, title standardization, and role structure projects.
  • Support compensation reviews, market benchmarking, and the annual compensation and bonus cycles.
  • Maintain HR data integrity in ADP and support compliance, compensation, and headcount reporting.
  • Support recruiting and onboarding, including job description review and new hire coordination.
  • Draft HR correspondence such as promotion letters and policy communications.
  • Participate in HR team meetings, trainings, and projects as needed.
What you bring:
  • 4–7 years of HR Generalist experience, ideally including employee relations, investigations, or corrective action.
  • Working knowledge of employment law fundamentals (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, state leave requirements).
  • Exposure to compensation processes, job evaluation, or organizational design.
  • A collaborative, team-first mindset — you thrive in an agile, fast-moving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 (especially Excel); ADP or similar HRIS experience helpful.
  • Adaptable and curious about AI tools, with a willingness to learn and apply them to streamline HR processes and improve efficiency.
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
