Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist – Clinical Laboratory

Overview

The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist supports the daily operations of a clinical laboratory by performing technical, quality assurance, and administrative functions. Working under the direction of a laboratory supervisor, this role provides operational oversight, supports laboratory leadership, performs complex laboratory testing, and assists with special projects to ensure efficient and compliant laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform clinical laboratory testing using professional knowledge and sound judgment.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned laboratory division.
• Support supervisors and managers with operational and quality initiatives.
• Perform quality assurance, technical, clerical, and administrative duties.
• Monitor laboratory processes to ensure compliance with established standards and procedures.
• Assist with workflow coordination and problem resolution.
• Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
• Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and records.
• Collaborate with laboratory staff to support efficient and effective operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a science-related field.
• Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License or an applicable California specialty laboratory scientist license.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
• Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while supporting laboratory operations and team objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

• ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification.

Compensation

• Hourly pay: $64.67 – $102.10, depending on experience, qualifications, and other applicable factors.
