Job description

Netflix Animation Studios is on a mission to entertain the world with bold, immersive animated films that are timeless and impactful. We are paving the way for the future of animation by building a community of amazing artists and talent across three vibrant locations globally. Come join us!

Job Summary:

We're looking for a Junior Post Engineer to join our Post Engineering team in Vancouver. This role is ideal for someone with handson experience in post, AV, or VFX environments who wants to deepen their technical engineering skills in a highend animation studio.

You'll be a frontline post engineering resource for our editorial suites, story and review rooms, and our screening theatre. You'll help ensure our specialty spaces are robust, predictable, and technically sound - from daytoday operations and Tier 1 support through to screenings, production reviews, and special events.

This role includes a strong focus on:

  • Troubleshooting complex specialty spaces (review rooms, theater, multiscreen/multichannel environments)

  • Operating and supporting QSYS-based room control and DSP

  • Understanding and maintaining SDR and HDR colour pipelines for review and screenings

This role requires occasional evening and weekend work, particularly around screenings, special events, and critical production milestones.

What You'll Do:

Editorial, Review & Theater Support (Tier 1)

Provide Tier 1 troubleshooting and operational support for:

  • Editorial suites (Avid Media Composer)

  • Story and Review Rooms

  • Theater and other specialty screening spaces

  • Audio suites (Avid Pro Tools)

Diagnose and resolve firstline issues related to:

  • Avid Media Composer and Avid Pro Tools

  • Autodesk RV and other VFX/animation review tools

  • QSYS-controlled systems (routing, presets, room states, monitoring)

  • Playback systems, operator workstations, and peripherals

Perform basic verification of audio/video signal flow and KVM paths; identify when to escalate to more senior engineers.

Clearly document issues and escalate complex problems to the Post Engineering team and cross functionals with relevant details, logs, and reproducible steps.

Screenings, Reviews & Events

  • Set up, operate, and tear down for:

    • Internal screenings and dailies

    • Production reviews in our theater and review rooms

    • External screenings, previews, and Q&A sessions

  • Operate and support:

    • Xenon-based digital cinema projectors

    • QSYS (or similar) audio/room automation systems

    • Playback, presentation, and basic routing of audio and video content

  • Ensure correct colour space, dynamic range, and format are used for each screening (e.g., SDR vs HDR, Rec.709 vs P3), flagging inconsistencies or mismatches.

  • Partner with Production, Editorial, Facilities, and vendors to ensure events start on time and run smoothly.

Media Systems & Workflows

  • Support daytoday operation of media and review systems used in animation and VFX pipelines, including:

    • Avid editorial workflows

    • Autodesk RV and other review tools

  • Assist Post Engineering team with:

    • Routine checks and basic maintenance of theaters, review rooms, and editorial systems

    • Verifying and troubleshooting audio/video signal flow and KVM paths where required

Operations, Documentation & Collaboration

  • Perform regular room and system health checks; log issues, resolutions, and followups

  • Contribute to and maintain documentation of room configurations, standard operating procedures, and common troubleshooting steps (e.g., within Jira, Confluence, or similar tools)

  • Work closely within Post Engineering, Technology, and Production teams to ensure stable, predictable, and artistfriendly environments.

  • Provide calm, professional support in live, timesensitive scenarios such as screenings and reviews.

  • Participate in offhours maintenance and event coverage on a rotational or asneeded basis.

What You'll Need:

Experience & Background

  • 2-3 years of experience in a similar role within AV, Post Production, Broadcast, or VFX/Animation environments.

  • Hands-on experience supporting theaters, screening rooms, edit suites, or review spaces.

  • Strong familiarity with animation or VFX post-production workflows (editorial, reviews, dailies, deliveries).

Core Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of:

    • Xenon digital cinema projectors (operation, calibration and basic troubleshooting)

    • QSYS or similar room automation / DSP systems

    • Avid Media Composer and Avid Pro Tools in a shared or networked environment

    • Autodesk RV and related VFX/animation playback tools

  • Solid understanding of:

    • Audio and video signal flow (routing, patching, monitoring)

    • Basic networking concepts (IP addressing, connectivity, basic diagnostics)

    • Multiple operating systems, with emphasis on Rocky Linux; exposure to macOS/Windows is a plus

  • Comfort with other VFX/post software and willingness to learn new tools as needed.

Soft Skills

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot OS and application issues at a Tier 1 level.

  • Strong customer service mindset and clear, concise communication with nontechnical users.

  • Detailoriented with the ability to follow and improve documentation and standard procedures.

  • Ability to stay composed and effective in live events and highpressure situations.

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as production and event schedules require.

  • Collaborative, curious, and eager to grow into more advanced post engineering responsibilities.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in colour workflows and colour management, including:

    • Working with calibrated displays and digital cinema projectors

    • Understanding of colour spaces and transforms (e.g., SDR/HDR workflows, PQ, HLG, Rec.709, P3)

    • Performing or assisting with calibration of projectors and reference displays

  • Experience working in HDR environments (review, QC, or finishing).

  • Exposure to digital cinema standards (e.g., DCP), and SDR/HDR review workflows.

  • Familiarity with video routing and KVM systems.

  • Previous experience in a feature animation or highend episodic VFX studio.
