Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to two VPs of Scripted Development, the Coordinator of Content will operate as the central hub for all the Department's lists, grids and key documents. Duties will also extend to actively supporting senior executives in assessing submissions as the team replenishes Shondaland's development pipeline with keen awareness of the company's global brand.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Project-Based Support - Staffing

Actively support staffing needs on a project-by-project basis by:

  • sample reading/gridding
  • helping find support staff/assistants for the writers' room

Development

As invited, work alongside Shondaland executive and EPs/creatives to:

  • prepare and refine pitches and contributing to overall strategy
  • contribute on-target ideas to project-specific writer/director/talent lists
  • assess submissions for possible future projects, flagging material Shondaland executives need to consider ASAP
  • actively seek out and identify potential new business through incoming pitches and available material for scripted, unscripted and feature projects, and with an eye to future staffing possibilities
  • identify, track and take general meetings with writers, directors, reps and executives to build relationships, earmark future potential business opportunities, continue growing Shondaland brand awareness and communicating targets for development

Actively oversee and collaborate with assistants on updating showrunner/writer/director/talent lists for specific projects with both new ideas, as well as ideas submitted by the rest of the development team. Have all priority lists and grids at the ready for Content Team executives, as asked.

Ensure Project Distribution Grid remains up to date as material goes both into NFLX and wide to internal teams.

Update Development and Project Grid on a weekly basis following team meeting. Deliver via Slack to both the Development Channel and other senior Shondaland executives, as asked.

Present feedback and creative thoughts to development team on project drafts and cuts, as well as on project-specific writer/director/talent lists, as invited.

Oversee assistants as they complete research relevant to development projects as assigned by the Content Team (project dependent).

Oversee assistants' official logging of submissions, as well as notes on said submissions.

Cover and report back to the Content Team on both Shondaland.com content and our podcasts produced in collaboration with iHeart Radio.

Cover and report back to the Content Team on film festival talent to track, trends and sales.

Attend and report back on screenings, plays and comedy shows as covering point for Shondaland.

Procure DVDs, scripts and other pertinent reference information as needed.


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Strong awareness of and appreciation for the Shondaland brand and mission
  • Experience working in drama and comedy (a plus: experience in documentary or unscripted)
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly develop internal and external relationships at all levels
  • Exceptional analysis, coverage and organizational abilities
  • Ability to demonstrate extreme discretion and creative problem-solving
  • Experience with research and creating presentation materials
  • Strong network of contacts at talent agencies and management companies


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience at the Assistant level
  • Bachelor's degree
