Job Title: Service Tool Design Engineer
Pay up to $80-$100/hr. (DOE)
Location: On-site, Berkeley, CA
Contract- 6 Months
Our client is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join their Field Services team. In this role you will be responsible for the design and delivery of custom field service equipment that enables safe and efficient servicing of the iron-air battery product in the field. To be considered for this role you will have a bachelor's degree in mechanical or Structural Engineering or related field and 10+ years industry experience in mechanical design
Job Duties
โข The scope of your work will include electro-mechanical system design, prototyping, and integration of large field service tools to be used in harsh outdoor environments.
โข One key tool from this project will need to raise and lower heavy components while standing on uneven terrain and transload the components from the lift-system
โข Design material handling equipment used for lifting, moving, and servicing modules and other components in the field
โข Perform hands-on prototyping of designs and collaborate with broader teams to build integrated units
โข Work with vendors and field service engineers to transition designs from the prototype stage to a hardened and weatherized field service tool
โข Perform testing, hand calculations, and FEA to inform specs and future design direction
โข Release designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc.)
โข Document system designs, usage guidelines, and validation procedures
โข Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of field service tools
โข Possible Travel up to 20% to other offices or vendor site
Knowledge/Skills/Education/Experience
โข Bachelor"s degree in mechanical or Structural Engineering or related field and 10 + years industry experience in mechanical design
โข Experience leading design work for complex mechanical systems and structural design, using FEA for structural analysis
โข Experience in electro-mechanical system integration, including motors (stepper, servo, or linear), actuators, and drive systems into fixtures
โข Advanced understanding of mechanical power transmission, motion control, gear ratios, and torque calculation is a plus
โข Proficiency in CAD, specifically SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD. Knowledge in Human CAD or Siemens Jack is a plus
โข Proficiency in ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or SimScale
โข Proficient with prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop environment
โข Sense of urgency and self-driven to hit difficult schedule targets
โข Strong communication and collaboration skills
โข Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance speed, rigor, and safety
