Work Arrangement:ย Hybrid - 3 days/week in the SEO office atย 3401 N Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33127ย 

  • This is a full-time, exempt position with a hybrid schedule requiring in-person work three days a week (including required Saturdays) and virtual work two days a week.ย The typical weekly schedule is as follows:ย 
    • Fall Term:ย Tuesday through Saturday (3x a month); Monday through Friday (1x month)ย 
    • Spring Term:ย Tuesday through Saturday (3x a month); Monday through Friday (1x month)ย 
    • Summer Term:ย Monday through Fridayย 
    • In-person attendance isย requiredย for allย Community Dayย programming datesย 
  • Two weeks of in-person attendance will beย requiredย during our College Application Bootcamp programmingย from mid to late Julyย 
  • Work requires local travel beyond the office for Saturday programming at the following locationsย (subject to change):ย 
    • Miami Dade College Wolfson Campusย

SEO Scholars is a free, eight-year, academic program that transforms public high school students in New York City, San Francisco, North Carolina, and Miami into college graduates. SEO Scholars successfully educates and mentors students to and through college.ย 100% of Scholars are accepted into four-year colleges, 85% of Scholars graduate with aย Bachelor'sย degree, and 80% are first-generation college graduates. POSITION OVERVIEWย 

SEO Scholars Miami seeks a passionate, student-centered, and highly organized 12th Grade Scholar Advisor to supportย ourย Scholars through one of the most critical stages of their educational journey: the transition from high school to college. Thisย Advisorย roleย will provide individualized advising, college access support, academic monitoring, family engagement, and social-emotional guidance to ensure Scholars successfully matriculate to and persist through postsecondary opportunities.ย 

The ideal candidate is relationship-driven, equity-minded, detail-oriented, and deeply committed to supporting first-generation and underserved students through the college application and transition process, and ideallyย will have experience as a college counselor in a high school or college setting with financial aid and scholarship advising experience, and possess a strong belief that, through commitment and hard work, students can achieve their dreams of college acceptance, attendance, and completion.ย ย 

College Advisingย & Accessย 

  • Create and foster an environment for all 12th grade Scholars that encourages intellectual curiosity, an inclusive,ย close-knitย and supportive community, and a college-going cultureย 
  • Provide data-driven advising to all Scholars in the cohort via one-on-one, small group, and family meetingsย 
  • Guide all 12th grade Scholars through the development of their college applications, all associated essays, and the financial aid process following SEO's collegeย advisingย approachย 
  • Coordinate guest speakers, alumni panels, and volunteer engagement opportunitiesย ย 
  • Collaborate with 12thย grade leaders at other SEO Scholars sites to connect Scholars to colleges and universities in other regions, as well as the College Scholars teamย 
  • Manage all college applications and matriculation decisions from start to completion,ย providingย individualized support as needed andย ensureย 100% of applications areย submittedย on timeย 
  • Assist Scholars with FAFSA, financial aid, scholarships, and verification processesย ย 
  • Support Scholars in evaluating financial aid packages and making informed college decisionsย 
  • Coordinate college transition and summer melt prevention effortsย ย 

Scholar Advisingย &ย CoachingSupportย 

  • Build strong relationships with Scholars through consistent one-on-one advisingย ย 
  • Foster andย maintainย aย strong cohort culture grounded in accountability, belonging, and communityย 
  • Monitor academic progress, attendance, engagement, andย overallย Scholar well-beingย ย 
  • Support Scholars in goal setting, time management, self-advocacy, and leadership developmentย 
  • Develop individualized support plans and interventions for Scholars needingย additionalย supportย 
  • Design and deliver curriculumย and workshopsย toย 12th Grade Scholars including 12th grade Advisory classes duringย the Fall, Spring, and Summerย 
  • Maintainย accurateย Scholar records,ย advisingย notes, and progress tracking systemsย ย 
  • Track application completion, FAFSA submission, college acceptances, scholarships, and enrollment outcomes;ย Ensureย timelyย completion of documentation and compliance requirementsย 
  • Partner with writing instructors to support all associated college essaysย as wellย asย allย scholarship, enrichmentย program, and opportunity program applicationsย 
  • Project an energetic, engaging, and approachable persona to promote students' connection to the content, investment inย learning, and positiveย relationshipsย toย all members of the communityย 
  • Work with 11thย grade Scholar Advisor to transition Scholars effectively into 12thย grade; Work with College Scholars team to successfully transition 12thย grade Scholars to their College Persistence Advisors (CPAs) and CS teamย 

Scholarย &ย Familyย Engagementย 

  • Collect, enter, and analyze all key data points for 12th gradeย 
  • Create, update, and manage all student-facing trackers, including the use of Salesforceย 
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for families throughout the college application processย ย 
  • Facilitate family meetings, workshops, and information sessionsย ย 
  • Communicate regularly with familiesย regardingย Scholar progress, deadlines, and college milestonesย ย 
  • Provide bilingual and culturally responsive support when appropriateย 
  • Plan several key College Admissions related events throughout the school year including but not limited to Graduation, Mock admissions day, FAFSA day, and College Decision Dayย 
  • Create and send monthly Family Newslettersย 
  • Deliver andย support all 12th grade Family Workshops andย assistย in workshop content creationย ย 

School & Community Partnership Engagementย 

  • Build andย maintainย relationships with related personnel from top colleges and universitiesย in Florida and across the Southeast region;ย Support individual Scholar interests nationally by building connection withย college/university admissions, asย requiredย to provideย supportย 
  • Build andย maintainย relationships with school counselors/advisors, teachers, and communityย partnersย 
  • Advocate for Scholars within school settings when appropriateย 

QUALIFICATIONSย ย 

  • Bachelor's degree;ย Master'sย degree preferredย 
  • 2+ years of experience in college access, youth development,ย high schoolย counseling, advising, education, or related fields, with a focus on college-bound pathways and English; experience as a college counselor or advisorย 
  • Strong knowledge of:ย 
    • College admissions processesย ย 
    • FAFSA and financial aid systemsย ย 
    • Postsecondary pathways and scholarship opportunitiesย 
  • Experience working with students in communities aligned with SEO's mission and passion for preparing them to lead by example in their families, communities, and careersย 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skillsย ย 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environmentย

  • Knowledge of theย Floridaย public college system and top ranked private colleges preferredย

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oralย 
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detailย 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Google Suiteย 
  • Must be data driven. Knowledge of Excel and experience working with Salesforce (database) and Brightspace (LMS) are a plusย 
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred; Haitian-Creole is a plusย 
  • Ability to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule from September to June and some evenings, as neededย
