The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a General Cleaning Technician #507. Duties
Help
Sets up rooms for meetings, conferences, and banquets on a regular basis.
Moves furniture, materials, and supplies using appropriate equipment.
Cleans and restocks public restrooms.
Cleans offices, including kitchenettes, fireplaces, and private restrooms.
Removes trash from public and private areas of the Senate side of the Capitol and transports trash to the collection site.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Work Experience
  • One to three years of experience setting up events, moving furniture, and/or office cleaning, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge
  • Ability to operate a variety of moving and cleaning equipment; including the ability to learn to operate an electric pallet jack.
  • As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant's proficiency in key areas relevant to the role.

Working Conditions
  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late-night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • Work requires frequent physical effort, including walking, bending, crawling, and standing for long durations.
  • Heavy lifting is required, including carrying items weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Work exposes the employee to hazardous materials (cleaning chemicals) and biohazard materials (blood, pathogens) and OPIM (other potentially infectious material).
  • Work requires the employee to wear uniforms and protective equipment such as gloves or other protective gear, excluding respirators.

Education
High school diploma (or GED).
