Job description

Hardware Operations Lead - Baseball
Reports to: Hardware Operations Manager
Contract: Full‑Time, Permanent
Location: Atlanta, GA; extensive travel across venues
Travel expectation: Approximately 50% during season; up to 80% during install season
Role Overview
The Hardware Operations Lead is an experienced onsite technical execution role responsible for leading hardware installation support, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and readiness activity across Hawk-Eye and KinaTrax Baseball systems.
This role operates within the combined Hardware Operations team, blending remote diagnostics with onsite execution. The Lead is expected to lead complex onsite work with minimal support, coordinate Engineers during installs and maintenance visits, make technical decisions within approved standards, confirm hardware readiness, and ensure clean handover into live operations.
The Hardware Operations Lead also plays a key role in developing Hardware Operations Engineers by coaching them through onsite work, remote diagnostics, QA checks, kit preparation, and escalation handling.
This role does not own system architecture, hardware standards, platform design, project governance, product roadmap, or software/platform deployment.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Onsite Leadership: Lead complex hardware installations, maintenance visits, and repairs. You will coordinate Hardware Operations Engineers on the ground, ensuring work is completed safely and to our high standards.
  • Mentorship & Coaching: Act as a technical mentor to our Engineers. Guide them through practical hardware tasks, troubleshooting logic, QA checks, and customer-facing site activity.
  • Advanced Diagnostics & QA: Take ownership of hardware health checks across cameras, compute hardware, networking equipment, power, and cabling. You will validate system readiness before handing it over to live operations.
  • Incident Management: Lead complex onsite troubleshooting. When things go wrong, you determine the recovery path, coordinate RMAs and spares, and know exactly when to escalate to Systems Engineering or TechOps.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Project Managers to hit installation timelines, provide crucial field feedback to Systems Engineering to improve hardware standards, and keep Operations informed of live delivery impacts.
  • Remote Support: When you aren't at the ballpark, you'll support remote troubleshooting, review field evidence, and make critical travel/no-travel recommendations for your team.

Note: This is a highly practical, onsite execution and team leadership role. It is not a project management, systems architecture, or software deployment position.
What We Need From You
  • Experience: 3+ years in hardware field service, technical implementation, broadcast technology, sports tech, or a similar environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong, proven troubleshooting capabilities across camera systems, servers, compute hardware, networking equipment, power systems, and cabling.
  • Leadership on the Ground: Demonstrated ability to lead onsite technical work with limited supervision, coordinate small teams, and communicate confidently with internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Methodical Approach: Experience using remote diagnostics, logs, and monitoring tools. You possess strong documentation discipline and know how to execute a clean handover.
  • Willingness to Travel: A readiness to travel extensively (up to 80% during peak installation windows).

Bonus Points If You Have
  • Prior experience with Hawk-Eye, KinaTrax, optical tracking, biomechanics systems, or camera-based sports technology.
  • Experience working in MLB, MiLB, NCAA, or other high-stakes broadcast and live-event stadium environments.
  • Familiarity with rack rooms, structured cabling, camera mounts, and complex venue networking.
  • Hardware maintenance, networking, or field service certifications.
  • A track record of successfully coaching and developing junior technical staff.

Team Culture
At Hawk-Eye, we pride ourselves on a collaborative, high-performance culture where trust, passion, and innovation thrive. We believe in fostering an environment where every team member is empowered to push boundaries and contribute to the future of sports technology. Our work is guided by three core values:
  • We are Brave: We challenge the status quo, embrace big ideas, and constantly seek new ways to innovate in the sports entertainment industry. We aren't afraid to take risks in pursuit of excellence.
  • We are Owners: We take personal accountability for our work, our decisions, and our collective success. We celebrate our wins together and treat every challenge as an opportunity to learn, grow, and improve.
  • We are Inclusive: We believe our diversity makes us stronger. We cultivate a welcoming environment where unique perspectives are valued, all while being united by our shared love for sports and technology.
