What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Investment Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Investment Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, financial modeling skills, and a solid understanding of financial statements, typically supported by a degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Excel, Bloomberg Terminal, and financial databases, as well as certifications like the CFA, is highly valued. Attention to detail, effective communication, and critical thinking are crucial soft skills for interpreting data and presenting investment recommendations. These skills enable analysts to make informed decisions, provide valuable insights, and drive successful investment strategies.

What are some common challenges faced by Investment Analysts in their day-to-day work?

Investment Analysts often encounter challenges such as managing tight deadlines, balancing multiple projects simultaneously, and staying updated on market trends and economic changes. They must sift through large volumes of data to identify actionable insights and communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Additionally, adapting to rapidly changing market conditions and ensuring accuracy in financial models are crucial to success in this role.

What are Investment Analysts?

They evaluate economic trends, financial statements, and market conditions to recommend buying, holding, or selling investments such as stocks, bonds, and other securities. Investment Analysts often work for banks, asset management firms, or investment companies, providing crucial insights to portfolio managers and clients. Their work supports the development of investment strategies and risk assessments.

About the Role

Schonfeld's Enterprise Data team is looking for a Market Data Analyst to manage the sourcing, licensing, and entitlements of market data across global vendors, exchanges, and brokers. You'll support Schonfeld's quantitative, fundamental, tactical, and macro portfolio managers in managing access to datasets across multiple asset classes and regions.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee day to day user entitlements, usage tracking, and compliance with vendor agreements and exchange rules
  • Manage vendor relationships (Bloomberg, LSEG, etc.), including licensing, onboarding, and cost optimization
  • Help manage exchange audits and compliance queries, ensuring accurate usage reporting and timely resolution with vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain inventory accuracy within the Optimize Spend platform while driving cost transparency and consolidation opportunities
  • Monitor data usage, troubleshoot discrepancies, and enforce data integrity controls
  • Maintain documentation of data sources, workflows, and governance processes

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or Business
  • 2-5 years in market data, data operations, or a related role at a hedge fund, asset manager, or financial services firm
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Deep understanding of financial data, data vendors, and their licensing structures.
  • Hands-on experience with Bloomberg EMRS, Refinitiv DACS, and Optimize Spend
  • SQL and/or scripting experience is a plus
  • Enthusiasm for leveraging AI tools to improve productivity and decision-making
