The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), Data Quality Office, is looking to establish a Power BI competency within our office to act as the primary resource for the development of data visualizations. PDE requires a senior-level Power BI developer to help establish this function within the Data Quality Office.
PDE requires an experienced Power BI developer with proven experience. The candidate should have five or more years of demonstrated experience and a 4 year bachelor's degree. Familiarity with education, education data, and Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS) and its data is highly desired. The candidate in this job is responsible for supporting PDE by collaborating with customers to identify business needs and delivering cost-effective Power BI solutions. In addition, the candidate will act as a resource for PDE staff to help ensure they are up to date on the latest Power BI technology and are informed of the proper resources required to develop Power BI solutions efficiently and effectively. This position performs work independently and involves decision-making capability and initiative. Work will focus on Power BI development with a secondary focus on Microsoft Power Platform development.
Responsibilities: The role and duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1) Document, design, develop, test, implement and support Microsoft Power BI solutions
2) Deliver high quality Power BI solutions, lead validations for testing and all activities related to implementation.
3) Advise Data Quality leadership on Power BI projects and critical project tasks, review milestone project results and resolve any technical problems that may occur
4) Work closely with program offices to thoroughly understand business processes.
5) Consult and collaborate with program offices to translate needs into analytics/reporting requirements.
6) Coach and educate DQ staff on best practices, standards,and proper use of Power BI.
7) Identify opportunities for improving Power BI development methods and procedures.
Qualifications/Skills:
1) Minimum of 5 years of development experience in Power BI
2) Strong proficiency in DAX, Power Query and data modeling
3) Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases
4) Ability to lead, plan, develop, and implement Power BI projects
5) Ability to provide technical user support
6) Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
7) Able to interact with individuals at all levels of PDE in a professional/personable manner
8) Expected to be able to work independently
