Job description

Description
Senior Facilities Technician
Northeast Alternatives is a growing, award-winning, seed-to-table cannabis retail brand specializing in the highest quality cannabis products Massachusetts, Michigan and New Jersey has to offer. Constantly focused on developing and ingenuity, NEA strives to achieve this by adding skilled and motivated team players. These goals are met by seeking out diverse, talented individuals to further the company's mission and provide unique and new ideas. As the business continues to grow, our team will continue to grow, allowing us to be the best in our specialized market. If you are motivated, eager to learn, dedicated, flexible and excited about joining an incredible industry, Northeast Alternatives is the perfect place to be!
Primary Work Location: 999 William S. Canning Blvd, Fall River, MA - sole on-site maintenance presence, with occasional travel to Seekonk and New Bedford
Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm. On-call rotation seat.
Purpose of the Role:
The Senior Facilities Technician is the maintenance presence at 999 William S. Canning Blvd - the MIP kitchen, packaging, the two bloom rooms, the dry and cure rooms, the retail floor and the office space - and supports the Seekonk and New Bedford retail sites.
The role is deliberately broad. It covers custodial and sanitation work, building upkeep, the site's recurring preventive maintenance list, and basic mechanical repair. Custodial and sanitation work is a core part of this job, performed daily, not an occasional add-on - an applicant should want a role of that shape, because it is a large share of the week and it is not delegated to anyone else.
What makes this the senior grade rather than the entry grade is autonomy. At Lakeville a Technician works alongside a Mechanic and a Lead and can ask a question at any moment. Here there is nobody to ask. This person judges what they can safely complete, completes it, and escalates the rest accurately and early. Anything beyond basic mechanical work is escalated to the Senior Maintenance Mechanic, who travels from Lakeville to resolve it - and escalating correctly is a skill this role is selected and paid for, not a shortcoming.
Responsibilities:
Sanitation, custodial and appearance - daily, and a core part of the role
• Maintain sanitation standards throughout the production, packaging, retail and office areas to Cannabis Control Commission and food-safety standard
• Perform daily custodial work - floors, restrooms, break areas, waste and recycling, glass and entryways, retail floor presentation
• Maintain grounds, parking, walkways, signage, exterior lighting and seasonal upkeep including snow and ice support
• Keep sanitation supplies, filters and consumables stocked and reordered before they run out
Preventive maintenance and building upkeep
• Own and complete the 999 recurring preventive maintenance list - roughly four scheduled tasks a week across the kitchen, packaging, bloom, veg, dry and RO systems
• Change filters, clean coils and drain pans, grease fittings, check belts, and complete assigned routes on schedule and without rework
• Perform routine repairs - doors and hardware, fixtures, drywall and paint, basic carpentry, minor plumbing, lamp and ballast replacement
• Support the packaging and post-harvest equipment - arbor press, labeler, sealers - with cleaning, adjustment and basic repair
Judgment and escalation
• Work independently for a full shift without on-site supervision, planning the day against the schedule and the queue
• Diagnose to the level of an accurate, specific report: what failed, what it is doing, what was tried, and how urgent it is
• Escalate refrigeration, chiller, control-system, three-phase electrical and any other work beyond the defined scope to the Senior Maintenance Mechanic - early, and before attempting it
• Escort and assist outside contractors, provide site access, and verify that the work area is left clean and safe
Records and compliance
• Log every job in the work-order system - what was done, on what asset, and how long it took
• Follow all Cannabis Control Commission and OSHA requirements at all times, and document compliance-relevant repairs
• Serve in the on-call rotation
Requirements - an application must meet all of the following:
• Two or more years in facilities, maintenance, custodial or building services work - OR demonstrated equivalent capability validated through NEA's hands-on assessment
• Demonstrated ability to work an entire shift independently, without on-site supervision, and to plan and sequence a day's work without being assigned it task by task. Validated through the assessment and through reference check with a prior employer.
• Willingness and physical ability to perform daily custodial and sanitation work as a core, recurring part of the role. This is stated as a requirement because it is a large share of the week and applicants should self-select on it.
• Demonstrated safe and competent use of hand and power tools, validated during the hands-on assessment
• Demonstrated ability to identify a fault, describe it accurately in writing, and recognize the boundary of their own competence - validated through a staged scenario in the assessment
• Ability to read and follow work orders, checklists and equipment instructions, and to log completed work
• OSHA 10 certification, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire - company paid
• Availability for the on-call rotation
All roles additionally require:
• Minimum 21 years of age (Cannabis Control Commission requirement)
• Able to obtain and maintain a Massachusetts CCC agent registration card
• Passes a pre-employment background check and drug screen in accordance with company policy and state regulation
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation between NEA Massachusetts locations
Preferred Qualifications:
• EPA 608 certification of any type - company paid if not held at hire
• Vocational-technical education in a relevant trade (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry)
• Prior experience as the sole maintenance or facilities person at a site
• Prior experience in a regulated production, food-grade, cleanroom or cannabis environment
• Forklift, scissor lift or aerial lift certification
• Interest in progressing to the Maintenance Mechanic level
Progression Within the Band:
Progression is earned against published criteria, not against tenure alone and not against anyone's opinion. Every certification named below is paid for by NEA.
$25.00 - $26.50 Entry. Meets all eligibility requirements.
$27.00 - $28.50 Six months in seat, OSHA 10 complete, the 999 recurring list completed independently without rework, and escalations consistently accurate and timely.
$29.00 - $30.50 Twelve months in seat and EPA 608 Type I or II held - company paid - with basic refrigeration work handled on site, measurably reducing Senior Mechanic trips to 999.
Essential Physical Functions:
This role requires the ability to perform the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
• Lift 50 lbs and push or pull 100 lbs
• Stand, walk, stoop, twist, bend, reach, kneel and perform repetitive motions throughout an eight-hour shift
• Climb ladders and work from elevated platforms and lifts
• Work in cultivation environments at up to 84°F and 75% relative humidity, in mechanical rooms, on roofs, and outdoors in all seasons
• Wear required PPE for the full shift, including respiratory protection where applicable
• Comply with sanitation protocol, including showering and washing hair before entering restricted production areas (occasional)
Behavioral Expectations:
NEA expects every employee to be reliable and punctual, to communicate clearly, to work safely, and to treat colleagues with respect. These are expectations of employment and are managed through performance review. They are deliberately not listed as eligibility requirements, because they cannot be objectively verified at the application stage.
Benefits:
• Health, dental and vision insurance
• Paid time off and paid holidays
• Employee discount
• Company-paid certifications - EPA 608 (all types), OSHA 10 and 30, forklift and aerial lift, and approved apprenticeship or licensure programs
• Uniforms provided
• On-call stipend and call-out premium when on rotation
Northeast Alternatives has a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and aspires to be reflective of the diverse communities we serve. We aim to attract and hire qualified candidates who hold these same values, provide diverse perspectives, and contribute to creating a workplace where all employees experience a sense of belonging.
Northeast Alternatives is proud to provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, disability, genetics, Veteran status or any other characteristic protected by state, federal and local laws. In addition to federal law requirements, NEA complies with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment in every location in which the company has facilities.
