Job description

Job Summary
The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting to add substitute special education teachers, authorized for visual impairments, to our substitute pool. The position provides instruction to students with a range of visual impairments in general education and/or special education settings (pull-out or push-in), including home or other natural environments per IFSPs/IEPs.
As part of the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the San Diego County Office of Education Special Education department provides a special education program for school-age multi-handicapped students at special education services for students throughout San Diego County.
Requirements / Qualifications
Substitute Teachers will be assigned year-round on an as-needed basis, throughout San Diego County within educational programs operated by the San Diego County Office of Education. If selected and processed as a substitute, candidates may choose areas of San Diego where they would prefer to work.
Please note:
The SDCOE substitute pool is ONLY for SDCOE managed sites (located throughout San Diego County). We do not provide substitute coverage to the various San Diego County school districts and charter schools. This position requires one of the following credentials:
  • Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit; or,
  • A valid applicable credential as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)

A Valid California Special Education Credential, authorization in Visual Impairment, is preferred for this recruitment.
  • Certificate Copy (Copy of valid applicable credential or permit as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing)
  • Resume (Resume, detailing education and experience)

Comments and Other Information
In addition to the completion of pre-employment paperwork, applicants must have fingerprints conducted through Livescan service if they do not already have cleared fingerprints through the San Diego County Fingerprint Clearinghouse. SDCOE Fingerprint Clearinghouse out-of-pocket fee is $77.

Incomplete applications will not be considered. All required California Credentials (if applicable, as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing) must be confirmed prior to employment with SDCOE.
