Job description

Qualifications Position Overview

We're looking for enthusiastic, dependable instructors who enjoy working with elementary and middle school youth in fun, active environments. This is an excellent opportunity for college students, educators, retirees, outdoor enthusiasts, artists, or anyone looking for meaningful part-time work while making a difference in their community.

Instructors will lead engaging after-school programs at Tacoma Public Schools through our Beyond the Bell program and facilitate exciting weekly Friday Adventure Club outings.

Program Schedule

Each week instructors will lead:

  • 2 days of Nature Art programming
    • Nature crafts
    • Environmental art
    • Creative exploration
    • Seasonal projects
  • 2 days of Outdoor Adventure programming
    • Nature games
    • Hiking and exploration
    • Team-building
    • Outdoor skills
    • Environmental discovery
  • Friday Adventure Club
    • Extended outdoor adventures in local parks and natural areas
    • Field experiences
    • Hands-on environmental education
    • Adventure-based recreation


Responsibilities


Preferred candidates will have:

  • Experience working with children or youth.
  • A passion for nature, art, education, or outdoor recreation.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to pass a Washington State background check.

The following are a plus, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Experience teaching art, environmental education, recreation, or outdoor skills
  • Education coursework or teaching experience
  • Bilingual abilities

Physical Requirements

  • Walk, hike, and actively participate in outdoor activities.
  • Lift and carry program supplies (up to 30 lbs.).
  • Work both indoors and outdoors throughout the school year.
