Job description

Position Summary:

The Education and Employment Specialist at STAR Community Justice Center is a position that directly works with the residential population to provide vocational skill training and address reentry needs, while reporting to the Vocation/Reentry Manager.


General Responsibilities:

  • Know and adhere to STAR's policies and procedures
  • Conduct interviews for vocational programming classes
  • Ensure all needed vocational program supplies requests are forwarded to the Vocation/Reentry Manager in a timely fashion
  • Ensure all vocational program completions and relevant information are documented on tracking logs and in CorrectTech
  • Maintain all GED, vocational, and community work service tracking logs
  • Ensure all incoming intakes are screened for applicability and placement into GED programming
  • Facilitate GED proctoring duties as needed
  • Coordinate with vocational partners to provide ACT WorkKeys proctoring to vocational residents
  • Conduct quarterly quality assurance observations on community work service volunteers, GED staff, and vocational instructor staff
  • Conduct quarterly observations of vocational instructors conducting tool inventory
  • Maintain and ensure all vocational tool inventories are completed and accurate
  • Contact former vocational residents to inquire regarding current employment status
  • Assist with the potential placement of residents into employment opportunities after completion of their program
  • Assist vocational and GED partners when the use of effective approval/disapproval is warranted with STAR residents
  • Complete all required trainings
  • Complete all tasks as directed by the Vocation/Reentry Manager


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Associates Degree or better in human service or criminal justice field is preferred
  • A strong background with two years in the field of corrections preferred
  • Valid driver's license
