Duties

  • Administer dialysis treatments using advanced equipment such as hemodialysis machines, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols
  • Monitor patient vital signs, physiological responses, and laboratory results to assess treatment effectiveness and adjust care plans accordingly
  • Educate patients and their families about dialysis procedures, medication management, dietary restrictions, and lifestyle modifications to promote health and independence
  • Collaborate with physicians, nephrologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Perform patient assessments including physical examinations, vascular access site inspections, and pain management evaluations
  • Respond promptly to acute changes in patient condition, providing emergency interventions such as airway management or IV infusion as needed
  • Conduct specimen collection and processing for laboratory testing related to renal function or infectious disease screening

Qualifications

  • Valid nursing license (RN) with current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Proven experience in dialysis nursing or critical care environments such as ICU or emergency medicine
  • Familiarity with dialysis equipment operation, including venipuncture for vascular access management and catheter care
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology related to renal function, and diagnostic evaluation techniques such as ultrasound-guided catheterization
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations including those with developmental disabilities, geriatrics, or in hospice & palliative medicine settings
  • Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic technique, ICD coding (ICD-10), and laboratory procedures
  • Ability to work effectively within EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for documentation and case management purposes
  • Excellent patient assessment skills combined with compassionate communication to support patients through complex treatment regimens
