Role Description The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) – CHST Required is a full-time, on-site role based in Honolulu, HI. The SSHO is responsible for overseeing daily safety operations at the job site, including conducting safety inspections, identifying hazards, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and client-specific safety standards. This role develops and updates site-specific safety plans, delivers safety briefings and toolbox talks, and maintains accurate safety documentation and incident reports. The SSHO collaborates with project managers, supervisors, and workers to address safety concerns, supports accident investigations, and leads corrective actions. This position also involves ongoing monitoring of workplace conditions, coordinating safety training, and promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the project.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Occupational Health and Workplace Safety, with demonstrated ability to apply safety standards in field environments.
• Experience in Construction Safety practices, including hazard recognition, job hazard analyses, and safe work procedures on construction sites.
• Background in Community Health or related areas that support understanding of broader health impacts and risk mitigation for workers and surrounding communities.
• Effective Communication skills, including clear documentation, reporting, and the ability to lead safety meetings and training for diverse teams.
• Current CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification required; additional safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR) are preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and relevant federal, state, and local safety requirements, with experience in compliance monitoring and incident investigation.
• Ability to work on-site in Honolulu, HI, engage directly with field personnel, and respond promptly to safety issues as they arise.
• Prior experience in an SSHO or similar safety leadership role on construction or industrial projects is strongly beneficial.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Position Details:

• Full-Time, W-2

• $35.00–$50.00/hour based on experience and qualifications

• Approximately 40 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications:

• Active CHST certification – Required

• Minimum 3 years of dedicated construction safety experience; 5+ preferred

• Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction

• Current 40-Hour EM 385-1-1

• Current First Aid / CPR / AED

• Competent Person training or qualifications in Fall Protection, Scaffolding, Excavation & Trenching, and Confined Space Entry

• Federal construction, NAVFAC, or USACE experience strongly preferred

• Ability to obtain NAVFAC approval and JBPHH installation access

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working independently in the field, communicating with contractors and Government representatives, reviewing AHAs, conducting daily inspections, managing safety documentation, and exercising stop-work authority when necessary.
