About the role

The Market Operations Specialist is responsible for providing real-time support to Rothera's clients and key internal stakeholders, maintaining a fair and orderly market, and monitoring the stability of Rothera's systems. Specialists engage directly with Rothera's clients, engineers, product managers, and executive leaders to resolve mission-critical questions and issues.

Market Operations Specialists are resourceful, gritty, and adaptable problem solvers. They can work both collaboratively and independently to methodically diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges. 

Markets are constantly changing, and Specialists regularly face time-sensitive, unstructured challenges in high-visibility situations. In partnership with Rothera's engineers, Specialists use their deep understanding of Rothera's clients and fluency with Rothera's proprietary datasets to uncover traders' problems and identify actionable solutions.

What you'll do

• Develop expertise with Rothera trading systems, market functionality, order types and external interfaces
• Provide technical and non-technical support for market participants, including futures commission merchants ("FCMs"), clearing banks, and other industry partners to resolve issues related to market access or usage of Rothera's trading, clearing, or data services
• Synthesize user feedback and coordinate communications when escalating critical system issues to Rothera engineers
• Monitor Rothera system integrity and maintain control of Rothera's trading environment
• Maintain Rothera's listed event contracts, ensuring accurate product specifications, trading parameters, and settlement terms
• Execute and maintain Rothera's operational procedures
• Design, build, and maintain automation scripts used by the Market Operations team
• Maintain and enhance Rothera's user-facing technical documentation, e.g. FIX Specifications, Connectivity Guides, etc.
• Perform log analysis and packet capture review to diagnose latency, execution, and trade integrity issues within Rothera's trading and clearing environments
• Oversee the daily settlement process for cleared transactions, including cash movements and payment instructions
• Perform reconciliations on all daily activities, including trade executions, cash collateral transactions, and contract settlements, promptly resolving breaks and discrepancies
• Manage the end-to-end clearing lifecycle, including position maintenance, collateral management, and delivery processing
• Collaborate with internal teams at Rothera, including Technology Operations, Product Management, Sales, Quality Assurance, Compliance, and Regulation

What you'll bring

• Bachelor's degree (ideally with a focus in economics, finance, computer science, mathematics, or information systems), or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
• 5+ years of experience in trade support, quantitative trade consulting, middle-office operations, or financial-industry compliance, or 5+ years experience in a system engineering or development operations role within an institutional trading or exchange environment
• Track record of successful front- or mid-office support or operational experience in electronic trading, ideally with an exchange, broker-dealer, or quantitative asset management firm
• Basic Python programming experience, e.g., composition of simple scripts to automate manual processes or assist with routine assignments
• Data analysis or experience using Python or SQL to query and interpret large datasets 
• Proven understanding of electronic trading systems, matching engine mechanics, and market connectivity concepts
• Disciplined attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Availability and commitment to flexibly accommodate an event-driven work schedule and an on-call environment

Desired, but not required

• Professional experience related to the trading, clearing, or settlement of exchange-listed derivative products
• Familiarity and demonstrated experience with FIX Protocol
• Some ability to apply complex queries to large datasets and analyze query results
• Familiarity with an automation scheduling tool like Rundeck

Benefits & Compensation

This position has a base salary of $125,000-$150,000 per year, plus participation in a discretionary annual incentive bonus program.
