Responsibilities:

The Director of Safety and Compliance is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety policies and programs to ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other federal and state regulations while fostering a culture of safety among drivers and employees. This position will collaborate with senior leadership to ensure safety and risk policies align with business objectives and assist in the achievement of profitability/productivity

requirements.


What you will do:

  • Develops and enforces safety policies, procedures, and best practices for drivers and fleet operations.
  • Implements and manages CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) initiatives to reduce violations and improve safety ratings
  • Conducts regular safety meetings, training sessions, and driver coaching on regulations and best driving practices; provides training and awareness programs for employees
  • Ensures compliance with FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA regulations
  • Develops and implements new driver onboarding and ongoing safety training programs
  • Manages corporate insurance programs including general and auto liability, property, and worker’s compensation
  • Oversees claims management by coordinating with insurance providers, legal teams, and authorities on claims and liability mitigation
  • Analyzes accident trends and develops strategies to reduce collisions, injuries, and equipment damage
  • Establishes risk management policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Conducts risk assessments and identifies key risk areas while developing mitigation plans and monitoring effectiveness
  • Advises executive leadership on potential risks and mitigation strategies
  • Monitors driver behavior using telematics, dash cams, GPS tracking and recorded driving events
  • Maintains up-to-date records for DOT compliance, including driver files, drug/alcohol testing, and vehicle maintenance logs
  • Prepares for and leads DOT and FMCSA audits, ensuring all required documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Stays informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and safety innovations
  • Develops business continuity and disaster recovery plans; leads the response to risk-related crises or incidents.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for Compliance Plan ensuring alignment with federal and state regulations, industry standards, and parent company
  • Leads ongoing evaluations of policies, procedures, and programs to ensure they remain effective, current, and aligned with regulatory changes
  • Oversees internal and external audits, ensuring timely corrective actions and continuous improvement
  • Directs the development and delivery of compliance training programs (live, online, and blended formats), ensuring effectiveness, consistency, and regulatory alignment
  • Champions a culture of compliance by driving communication strategies that encourage employee engagement, ethical decision-making, and reporting of concerns without fear of retaliation
  • Prepares high-quality reports, updates, and presentations for senior leadership, the compliance committee, and other governance bodies
  • Collaborates with cross-functional leaders to integrate compliance priorities into broader business operations and strategy
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to leadership and a role model for ethical behavior across the organization
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary


What you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Transportation, Logistics, or a related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation safety, fleet management, or compliance within the trucking industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, Hazardous Materials, and OSHA regulations
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely using appropriate mediums (for example- face-to-face, email, and presentations), and effectively demonstrate understanding and clarify meaning for others
  • Ability to analyze data and implement safety strategies based on incident reports, telematics, and compliance metrics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, fleet management software, ELD compliance systems, Origami, and other TPA (Third Party Administrator) websites
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to conduct safety audits to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Possess good judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills, and integrity
  • Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and critical-thinking skills
  • Advise and teach to prepare others for effective job performance
